(New) York

  • Some may argue New York's social and cultural influence may have now surpassed it's British namesake in the North of England, but that debate aside any travel tips?

I'm going on Saturday for a week and haven't really planned anything other than going to a 'ball game' at Yankee Stadium. Not too interested in the touristy things but more interested in Aladdin's cave bike shops and late night jazz clubs.

    Any recommendations appreciated.

  • Digging up tis thread again

I'm going in September for around 5 days. I've previously done the tourist stuff so I'm looking for some suggestions

Things to do, food, drink etc.

  • One of the best, and free things we did was Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Also personally Village Vanguard jazz club was a bit disappointing, really expensive, they cram you in and not my bag.

  • Tour at the tenement museum, then mooching round East Village. NYC museum is good (there‚Äôs a good exhibition on cycling and NY at the moment). Had a nice morning walking round Greenpoint - eating doughnuts from the Peter Pan bakery and looking back at Manhattan.

  • Cheers for the suggestions. Had planned on the tenament museum and staying in Brooklyn so Greenpoint is on the list, must check out the cemetery too
