I have a few knocking around but will need to check if the thing you say about the upper pivot position of the b screw might apply to any of them...

I've heard that 10 speed campag shifters work with a pre-2001 campag rear derailleur to shift a shimano 10 speed cassette (http://www.cyclinguk.org/cyclists-library/components/transmission-gears/derailleur-gears/shimergo)
Anyone got a cheap pre-2001 rear mech they want to sell me? I think they can be identified from the position of the B-tension screw at the derailleur upper pivot rather than near the upper jockey wheel? I think this is all the 8 speed stuff and some of the earlier 9-speed stuff.
Not in London so will need postage. Thanks!
