The road version uses a 114mm BB.
The outer ring chainline should be 46mm, assuming you want a 42mm chainline you need to move it in by 4mm.
So you need an 8mm shorter BB, ie 106mm. In theory, but measurement > theory.
The track version doesn't have tabs on the back of the spider for the small 'ring, so it's possible the tabs of the road version will foul the chainstay.

I'm currently trying to fit a starfish to my french track frame and I can assure you that it can be really frustrating to find the right bb or spindle for a french threaded frame. Keep in mind that there is a difference between iso and jis tapers/cranks. Before you buy anything read up on sheldon about french bbs and taper compatibility. If the frame already has a french bb in it und you want to change the spindle, make sure to get a spindle for an italian bb with 70mm shell width. Even though french bbs have a shell width of 68mm, they have thinner cups so the shoulders on the spindle need to be further apart than for bsa spindles despite the same bb shell width.
As regards clearance issues with the tabs on the back of the spider, you can file them off if you're into puppy killing (did it myself once with a knackered super record strada crank).

That's true. There's even differences across different manufacturers and models from what I read and experienced. I should have formulated it like this: read up before you buy, then buy and prepare to get frustrated (or lucky)

Hi!
I could get Sugino Super Mighty Road Crank for a good price with a new 48T chainring.
I have a Gitane Track Frame i want to build.
Is it possible to get a perfect chain Line with Road Cranks on a Track Frame?
Whats the difference between the track and the road-version of these cranks?
