Hi spooky, deserted Bristol part of the forum.
If I wanted to get repairs done to a frame (i.e. Tracking, dropout replacement etc) is there an alternative to Argos?
Why not Argos?
To be perfectly honest I'm being cheap. Or rather, I'd like to see if anyone can do what I want a bit cheaper as Argos would charge me more than it's worth dropping on the frame.
Depends on what it is, but Bike workshop on colston street have helped me out with a few things on steel frames before, like tracking and reaming a ST before for a decent price
Ah, good call. I'm going to do the string test in a sec, but i think the frame does need a tracking tweak, and also a bit of a ST ream (never 100% comfortable using that term!), so that's good to know. Cheers.
I call it the workshop of wonders. Downstairs is like a mad scientist's lab
Agreed - these guys have a wealth of knowledge, one of the best bets in Bristol. There's a good little place off Junction 2 of the M32 also, near the library - this guy may have useful pointers also.
Ryan @ Ryan builds wheels
Weirdly, they've never really been able to help me with anything.
What place is that? I'm in fishponds, which is in that area.
Think it's Junction 3 library actually - just round the corner the place is. From memory you could try the Bike Project, off Gloucester Road ( toward St. Pauls) - these guys should be good for ideas.
Cheers for the tips, chaps. Will report back.
Spoke to a car restoration mate today actually - asked him about repairing/replacing my chewed track dropouts and he said something about MIG welding them 'shut' and then re-cutting the slots! Sounded scary.
Don't worry about formatting, just type in the text and we'll take care of making sense of it. We will auto-convert links, and if you put asterisks around words we will make them bold.
