  • I'm no expert on US constitutional law, the US Constitution seems pretty clear about 4 year terms

I’m not suggesting the SC would try to subvert the constitution over presidential terms, there’s no way they’d go for anything like that. But I do think that if there are states with close vote counts that end up disputed in the courts - as in Gore V Bush - then the SC will swing in favour of the Republican candidate.

  • Yeah, that's possible. It wouldn't be the first time.

  • It could also be crafted out of a different medium than the traditional ones
I suggest bullshit, it's more in keeping with his persona

  • I think it's likelier that the Republicans will take the pandemic as an opportunity to suppress voting - closing polling stations in Democratic areas on public health grounds, issuing phony shelter in place orders for Democratic areas, etc. The Republicans fucking love voter suppression, have been doing it for years and years, and are very skilled at doing it blatantly and getting away with it. All they need to do is run the vote close enough in a handful of swing states and then punt it up to the Supreme Court - a la George Bush - and they get back in, because the SC is stacked with Republicans.

    Gerrymandering thread here:64/

I found this article I posted there particularly interesting:/nov/07/is-america-a-democracy-if-so-why-does-it-deny-millions-the-vote

  • He’s got John Bolton absolutely nailed on there

  • I agree, but everbody knew what John Bolton was like before Trump appointed him.
It's not like Bolton was a closetHawk who suddenly started to want to drop bombs on everybody
after he was appointed by Trump.

  • The Biden campaign are trying to out-hawk Trump on Venezuela and China.

It’s surely awful for many Americans being ruled by Trump, but for the rest of the world it’s debatable who’s the most dangerous.

  • Oh yeah, sure, it’s a damning indictment of trump that he wasn’t aware that Bolton is a psychotic sentient moustache stapled to a ham, but he got there eventually

  • This was a fuck up on Hannity's part, the way he unintentionally revealed the extent of Trump's dementia. I am guessing that from now on Fox interviewers will make sure never to ask questions that require definite answers. Maybe they will develop a whole new style of interviewing, open ended conversations that makes Trump's deranged stream of consciousness look intentional.

  • Lots of chat about Trump losing the election.

    Dare we hope?

  • He won't go down without a fight. Voter suppression is going to get even more dirty.

  • I have absolutely no idea how it's going to pan out. There will undoubtedly be a lot of manipulation, whether by remote hacking or voter suppression, etc., but the only thing I've noticed in the past week that seems to be changing is that various anti-social media platforms have suspended Trump-related stuff, e.g. Reddit deleted completely a sub-forum that they had long suspended, and various other platforms that I'd never heard of. Only F******, quite possibly because of the CIA influence, has so far not followed suit, but the others seem to indicate that there's a moderate push to deny him some of his vents.

  • My gut feeling is that the reporting on this is to motivate his base, rather than anything necessarily meaningful

  • Also, potentially, to make campaigners against him complacent and less active than they might be otherwise. I don't know if anyone would be susceptible to that, though. There's too much at stake.

  • My gut feeling is that the reporting on this is to motivate his base, rather than anything necessarily meaningful

And the polling? The numbers are very bad for him.

  • They were bad 4 years ago too.

  • They were, but not this bad I don't think. I could maybe check...

  • Are polls in the US more reliable than over here?

  • Ok yeah, they were bad.

  • Trump looked a shoe in for re-election pre COVID and the death of George Floyd.

I think he will double down with his base on law and order, and unleash the shit that they have stored up on Biden. The American left seems determined to self implode..edia-is-destroying-itself

  • I think its hard to tell tbh. After the polling fuck ups of 2016 most big polls changed the way they work...might take a few elections to figure out how well the new approaches work!

  • The GE here being a case in point..
