  • Thanks man. Prices are deffo negotiable though.

  • Very much might be interested. As I said before, if you are willing to hold onto it for a bit, I'll have it. I have a rack and wheel build to pay off before I can get anything new.

  • Yeah man, I'll put it aside.

  • The paint is even better in person. Will be making a quick mock build tonight

  • Colour looks sweet , what cockpit you thinking off ?

  • Damn son! What seller?

  • Its from 8pilgrim8, was on eBay for an hour or so before I scooped it up :-)

  • So I've put together a preliminary build using the parts it came with and some spare tarck bits. I'm really happy with how it looks. I think silver seatpost and stem is good, when I get the money plan is to get the specialized stem and bars mentioned above. I'll need to find a nice long silver post but that'll have to wait.

For the groupset, I have some cheap 5700/6600 shifters and mechs lined up to purchase next week for cheap which I'll use for the time being. I'll use the cranks that came with it for now, I think I'll need to change the rings for 10 speed though. Eventually I'd like to get a 7700 chainset with the dura ace tt rings.

I'm definitely feeling a carbon wheelset for it. It will probably have to be used though as buying new is too pricey. I reckon a used set of zipps or corimas would look good. This is least on my list of priorities though so might be a while.

  • Dammit, just realised that these rings are 9 speed so won't work with 10 speed chain...

edit: Just did some reason and I think this isn't the case

8, 9 and 10 speed are all interchangeable.

  • Sweet, though I've just read that shifting isn't as good as if you were using 10 speed chainrings

  • I've just read that shifting isn't as good as if you were using 10 speed chainrings

Not an issue; you're only going to stay on the big ring anyway.

  • So this happened this evening. Thanks to lots of free parts from @Miitch and his expertise in setting up road bikes, it is now rideable. Took it for a quick spin and it rides super smooth. Haven't ridden a road bike in probably around 6 months so having a freewheel and gears will take some getting used to.

It's very much a mish mash of shimano bits at the minute. I got some 105 10 speed shifters to use, just had to swap out the cassette and chain. If I was to get carbon wheels, I think that black components bar the cranks would look good, so I'd likely change the brakes and mechs out for 5700. But carbon is subject to me selling my other shit and something cheap coming up in the classifieds.

The cockpit setup feels good. I think I might need a slightly fatter stem to match the tubes, but it'll stay as is for now. Need a nice seatpost too, and some nicer bar tape.

Overall, very happy. Going for a spin around Regents tomorrow to really test it out.

  • That's pretty freaking awesome already. I actually think the silver finishing kit looks good and probably better than black. Silver parts with carbon wheels would look ace. Digging those Ultegra cranks.

  • Sweeeeet!!

  • Looking great so far. How about a salsa stem or maybe a nitto ultimate painted black and re-stickered? Link They aren't really fatter but I dont think the slim stem looks out of place

All black parts and silver cranks then maybe black 40-50mm carbon rims and silver spokes/hubs I can imagine in my head right now looking sweet

  • Also what silly wheels are you gonna use/buy for this?

  • This thing looks ace! How about a 3t mega chromix stem? I just picked up a NOS one off the forum. Nice ovalized tube.

  • This thread contains everything you need ;)

    (Flexible on price...)

  • Cheers for the comments

@BigH hmm can't decide is black or silver finishing kit will be better, might be a job for Photoshop.

No clue on silly wheels for now, was thinking about dual corima 4 spokes but might be too much. Will probably be whatever I can get cheap.

@dazzrie a bit too chunky for my taste

@dglshrn might be interested in the stem.. I'm happy with the Deda peiga bars on there at the minute, and cool cranks but I have my eyes set on dura ace 7700 with TT rings :~)

  • There not as chunky in person as you think, it's quite ovalized the tube is!

  • I worked some potatoshop magic. New wheels and cranks..

  • Those are pretty deep (80mm?). Personally, I'd go for something a little shallower. Undeniably slave though, especially with the DA ring!

  • Imo, this build just needs some 45's on there.

I like the build as is right now. It's a good mix.
