an illegal and evil war
Always interesting to read an objective and impartial opinion...
-

I'm extremely partial on that, and I'm not sure where I claimed my opinion was 'objective'? Others are welcome to disagree, but it's obviously the worst war of our times, and as far as I know most legal commentators agree that a second UN resolution would have been required. Oh well. Let's see what they say.

Indeed!

Findings at a glance
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36721645Seems like something in between...
-
• #6
Kind of what I expected: highly critical but not to the point of any prosecutions being likely (although entirely justified, imo).

Edit. The more I read, it's pretty heavy stuff. He's not pulling many punches.
-
• #8
its all irrelevant.
we know about the war and its legitimacy, regardless of what the inquirey tells usall i want to hear is that 'bliar' will be impeached and that he's going to prison.
and then hopefully sodomised by a very large inmate.if i were english id be embarrassed by the actions of that government.
im not, however, but its still shamefull -

hopefully sodomised by a very large inmate.
seriously - have a fucking word with yourself.
-
• #11
if i were english id be embarrassed by the actions of that government.
No, you wouldn't. But I'm embarrassed by your prison rape joke.
-
• #12
ANYWAY - hardly in-between - about as damning as it's possible for the scope of the inquiry to be. Anyone holding out hope of prosecutions for Blair - on what grounds? He's done about as much wrong as it's possible to do, but there aren't any standing laws that he can be tried under, as far as I can see.
-
• #13
In theory he could be in some places but it's never going to happen.
-
• #14
^

he is quite possibly the worst thing to have happened to this country in over a generation. -
• #20
or are you that thick that you have to take everything literally?
-
• #21
No one's taking it literally, dude. It's just not a nice thing to joke about.
-
• #22
^ you're far too kind.
-
• #23

-
• #25

So, this is to report tomorrow.
http://www.iraqinquiry.org.uk/
Plenty of articles in the press in anticipation of it, including on Tony Blair's legal position by Geoffrey Robertson:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jul/05/tony-blair-in-the-dock-fantasy-wars-aggression
Will it be a whitewash or a hard-hitting report? Most likely something in between--but what could be hard-hitting enough, anyway, for an illegal and evil war that cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of people? The Iraq Body Count web-site currently puts the death toll at 251,000. I think there have even been higher estimates, but they haven't been verified--which in any case is probably impossible in the fog of war.
https://www.iraqbodycount.org/
The war isn't really over, as people are dying in hostilities even long after its official 'end', although it is of course a matter of debate whether one considers what is currently going on a war, and if so, whether it should be thought of as the same war rather than its still bloody aftermath.
