  • The TRP cx8.4's recommend sram levers for compatible pull ratio and shimano i think for the tcp cx9's which are slightly bigger v brakes. They're not set up super close to the rim, i think I'm just new to setting them up, i need to get hold of the park tool 4th hand tool to make my life easier, the levers brake great without coming too close to the bars

  • Trying my hand at speeding up surface rust just to loose the shinyness of the ground areas from welding. Bleach, white vinegar and salt soaked cloth wrapped round the areas for 30mins each

  • I've got a good reference I took on holiday for you, gimme a pm I will find it.

  • Looking good dude!

  • Sweet I'll pm u bro

  • the arms of the vs look very wide apart, could you change the spacing of the pads?

  • looks good though, internal routing looks smooth as

  • so according to the instructions they are the correct width apart. They seemed too far apart to me when i was setting them up but the smaller of the 2 spacers are being used so they are sitting in the correct position. The bosses that were welded on could move ever so slightly further down which may make a small difference but they are at the recommended width. The h plus sons are alot wider that normal road rims which probably arnt helping

  • yeah the routing looks dope

  • Get a compressionless housing, which allow you to move pads away from rims while improve feel (sharper).

  • ah yeah the rims are quite wide. makes sense

  • is that under 45mm? Try swapping the spacers if not. Worst case get thin brake pads like swissstop evo.

As soon as I switched to narrow rims my TRPs worked much better with more adjustability.

  • its 65mm and the instructions say the brakes are linear pull not mini V even though they are minis, next step would be thinner pads

  • looks like the stops are welded on a tiny bit too close together no? just take some spacers out from the inside of the brake pads

  • linear pull = full fat V

    trp cx 8.4 = mini v

  • looks like the stops are welded on a tiny bit too close together no?

You got it, abet not the fault of the welder.

The seat stay are very narrow on that Gangsta, which put the brake arm a lots closer to the wheels than it should, it happen on my Gangsta when I had the canti mount fitted.

Solution was using Open Pro and taking off the spacer, which you can see from the photo, bear in mind that this is the V2 Gangsta, where the stay is a little wider apart than the V1.

  • Yeah the brackets are too close but they are welded on the outside of the stays already, we didnt have much to play with, I'll try removing the spacer on the inside of the pad

  • or y'know cantis ;)

  • managed to switch spacers around a bit and put what i can on outside of pad and brakes have closed up to 50mm rather than 65mm, so I've gained 15 mm. only other solution is thinner pads or rims and Id rather not switch wheels

  • yeah or cantis

  • Swissstop made a pads for wide rims, the Flash Evo BXP, they were useful when fitting wider rims on old bike with old pads.

The BXP is the choice of pads as they're massively powerful in wet and dry, and doesn't wear the rims out.

  • are they noticeably thinner?

  • Don't go for Cantis, I had them before and it was difficult getting a cable stop short enough to fit, or find one that part of the seat clamp in BMW weird sizing.

Also it's very close to your heels, so it's quite easy hitting your feet on it with Cantis.

  • Yes, helped with old calipers that were designed for narrow old school rims.

  • ill run the bike with the spacers out the pads tmr and see how it is then ill look into new ones
