• Pondering of the idea of putting some flat/riser XC bars on my CXish road bike and was wondering whether the MTB shifters (such as SRAM X1 or GX) would shift fine with SRAM Rival 22 rear derailleur? Thinking to go 1x in front as I rarely use small ring so wouldn't need the left shifter. And also, what is the difference apart from price with X1 and GX? GX seems to be slightly lower tier but not quite why.

  • According to teh internetz you can't mix Exact Actuation stuff (road 10, 11speed, mtb 10speed) with X-actuation (mtb 11 speed).

    Your mileage may vary though.

GX is the affordable 11 speed SRAM MTB group, think Shimano SLX level.

  • According to those dudes, cable pull ratio is the same on 11spd road as 10spd MTB but what would that mean? Only 10 gears?
So I guess if I go through with it and want 11 gears then I would need a x1 derailleur as well.

Edit: Right, so after a bit of a look, seems like GX is good enough for what I need. So if I get a GX shifter with GX rear mech and dual SRAM guide brakes then all should be well technically.

I think so. It looks like the cable pull is the same.

    Yep.

  • Excellent, guess will try that!
