  • The gravel kings are tubeless compatible, I run 32c GKs on my road bike tubeless. You will def need a compressor/bottle rocket magic to get them up first time tho.

  • Someone asked about OTP options a few pages back and @amey recommend Hunt.
    Any others worth considering?

  • check actionsports.de

  • I'm pretty sure they mentioned something about a disc-compatible Polyvalent on their blog. Maybe next year?

  • If a frame can clear 40mm tyres on 700c what is it likely to be able to clear on 650b? 2.1 inch a stretch?

  • Really depends on what the chainstays and seatstays look like. Pics or make/ model?

  • Geekhouse Mudville

  • Since its custom you can ask for it .. WTB has a list of their 'road plus' (650b x 47mm) thing here: http://www.wtb.com/pages/road-plus

  • Is it worth getting SV14A Superlight (108g) tubes instead of SV12 Standard (149g)?

  • I'm looking for a super cheap 27.5 hardtail frame to shove some spare parts on and use through winter, and try out some local trails.

Just spotted this. Ok value? https://www.cnc-bike.de/product_info.php?products_id=15140

  • Easy now. I'm going to try putting a set of 650bs on a 2014 Croix de ver and need to pick some brains!

Has anyone seen anywhere selling Mavic xm119 rims in 36hole? Couple of places have listed as out of stock and they're no longer on the Mavic website. Old stock kicking around anywhere? What would be an equivalent that you'd would suggest?

It's going to be fulfilling commuting and loaded touring duties on mainly sealed roads. What tyre would you go for if you were prioritising durability/puncture resistance over weight? Anyone have a definitive notion on the biggest tyre you can get in this frame on 650s? Merci tous le mode!

  • If you're going 36h, any rim should do the job really. So long as it isn't a superlight. This is what I might get as well.
Tyres depends on where you're gonna ride. Since going tubeless, I almost always opt for a lightweight tyre. Haven't had issues yet. I ride all over, mostly smashing through undergrowth. You can visibly see where the silicone does its job with tiny holes.
Compass seem to be the go-to tyre at the moment, plastered all over the radavist and shit.
Tried the Shwalbe G-one recently. A pain to install, but roll reaaally nice at low psi.
As for tyre size. Paging @edscoble

  • I've now put a few thousand miles on my daughter's Confrérie,
and can report that their rims and tyres are bullet proof.
My commuting uses paths bits were I have to pick my way at walking pace,
    with 32 tyres;
massive roots hidden on a canal path taken at speed.

And a litter strewn hard shoulder.
The bike was second hand ,very poorly maintained.

I put some work on the wheels,
    a little flat was corrected,
    a few bounces,
    tensions evened out.
    My daughter then crashed,
her local bike shop declared the wheels probably totalled.
A massive flat on the rear got me to concur.

    I realized then,
that the rear drive side spokes were too long,
and at the nipples at the bottom of the thread on 2 or 3 spokes.
I still put a few hours in,
as it was a town bike with little use,
and managed to get the wheels straightish.

Tensions still uneven due to bottomed out nipples.

I got to use the bike all along the summer commuting,
    and overnighters.
To my amazement the wheels didn't bulge.
Paths are rocky around here, and I've got mtb habits.
    I'm light though at 70kg and a 5/15kg pack.

Threads on tyres are almost intact.
    0 P....re.
Not the supplest tyre obviously, nor the widest rim.

    On a budget ?
    Want reliable stuff ?
    Here you go.

I'm confident the rims will be trouble free on the tandem set I'm building.
    Will report back.

  • I have 42mm Compass Babyshoe Pass on a 2014 croix, under 55mm mudguards. If you're not running guards you could go comfortably go bigger without issue, up to around 50mm I'd say.

  • This is a cool straggler

  • Super light.

  • Looks good on the 650b, do you have a link to more photos/info?

  • This. It's awesome. It's also mind warpingly light. I have no idea how. Rides great and has many gubbins.

  • Where can I actually buy a pair of WTB Nano TCS 27.5x2.1?

Edit: I can't, they only do TCS in 29. Fuckers.

  • Good shout, I may look out for one in the sales for my lady, she needs a new hybrid. Does it really have reack mounts on the rear? I can't see them in the photos.

  • It should but see what yoU meant, order it in and find out?

It look a cracking bike for the money.

  • I think that might have been a proof of concept picture. I'm pretty sure it has, I was rolling around on one today. Big fan.
