  • I have a Rossin bike for sale from the 90s sometime I believe. It has full Campagnolo spec, the only things mismatched are the pedals and the saddle which are VP383s and Charge respectively . Also some of the cable outers are Shimano.
Beautiful high profile Vento wheels, Chorus groupset (except possibly the calipers, not sure). It has integrated shifters.
Cinelli Alter stem and Cinelli handlebars. Columbus SLX tubing, with internal cabling. Its in pretty superb condition, not been used a lot and has all the original decals. There are a few scuff marks, most notably on the right hand side crank arm where the Campagnolo logo has been slightly buffed away. I bought it to be a 'special occasion' kind of bike, but dont really have the space or money to justify that, so I'm looking to sell. It rides really nicely and changes are very smooth.

I paid £360 for this including postage on Ebay last week, would like to make that back.

  • This just sold on ebay last week

  • P.S the fork is carbon, and it includes vintage 1990s Campy water bottle. The Cinelli handlebar has some cute little Giro D'italia logo which the photos don't really show.

  • Yes, I bought it, and decided to sell it on. I felt like I got a good price for it, but can't really afford it so wanted to sell it.

  • just sell it for what you paid for it then, would be the only fair way, else looks like you're targeting a community to profit from ignorance of its origin. presumably collection, but from where?

  • I'm not really sure what its worth...

Er... how about what you paid for it?

  • Yes, fair enough. I hope it doesn't come across that way, I'm not trying to rip anyone off, I feel like people on this site will know what is a fair price and what isn't. Having said that, I don't think there's anything wrong per se with reselling at a profit something from Ebay, the nature of ebay is such that you can get a bargain. Anyway. I paid £360 in total for this, I'm not that knowledgeable but I feel that was a pretty good deal.
    I'm in Tower Hamlets.

  • Yes but what I paid for it and what it is actually worth may be two different figures.

  • good luck buddy

  • Quite: something is "worth" what someone is prepared to pay for it, which in your case was £360. So it's disingenuous of you to say that you have no idea what it's worth.

...I don't think there's anything wrong per se with reselling at a profit something from Ebay...

    You must be new here.

  • Yes, Ok, you are right I should have put the original price, as it does look a bit dodgy otherwise. Partly I was intrigued to know what other, more experienced eyes than mine would think it was worth. If I was trying to rip people off, this would hardly be the site to do it. I would have posted it on Gumtree for three times what I paid for it if I wanted to do that.

  • I've changed the original listing to include the price.

  • It never ceases to amaze me the amount of people who only realise they can't afford their new bike - or discover they don't have the space for it - only after buying their new bike.

I also wonder why people bother trying to explain the reason for their sale in the first instance.

  • Ever heard of 'buyer's remorse'?

  • That's my point: I'm surprised at just how common a complaint it is.
It's almost as if people are: too stupid to manage their finances properly; on the make.

  • There are some nice bits there: the frame, the wheels, the stem and the group (the brakes are Chorus, but from the previous generation and the front is missing the cable adjuster).

However the bars have been painted and more importantly, the forks aren't original and are completely incongruous.

If you want to have a go at getting back what you paid, you should either split the bike and sell the parts separately or if you don't want to do that, stick it on Gumtree or back on eBay.

  • No need to get aggressive.

  • Ok thanks. How much would be a reasonable price for the wheels? They're the nicest part in my opinion, I do like high-profile rims.

  • Who says I'm being aggressive? I'm genuinely baffled by people who buy something one week and decide they can't afford it the next.

  • Of course people are too stupid to manage their finances properly. I want people to bring me nice things in the post at least once a week. I can't afford them, doesn't stop me. I buy £2.60 coffees. I've got a perfectly good espresso maker at home. I've got an alleyway full of bikes and bike parts.
I'm supposed to tell myself off about this stuff, maybe other family members. But not people on a website.

  • The classifieds on here and Retrobike, together with eBay would be your best sources for researching prices.

  • I'm not telling anybody off. There was also a subtext to what I was saying: that people buy things with the intention of selling them on at a profit and use the whole 'can't afford it/got a bill to pay/changed my mind' to justify their sale. I'm not saying that's what's happening here, but there have been a lot of people selling things on here of late who seem to think LFGSS is an extension of Gumtree. At the very least these people should spare us the sob story.

  • It's not a sob-story, I 'can't afford it' in the sense that I probably could have used the money for something more sensible as I already have a perfectly decent bike, not 'can't afford it' like the bailiffs are going to come knocking. But I take your point.

  • Nah, you're right. It seems to me a fairly recent development too. Not to have a go at the OP in particular and forgetting the rules of the site for a second it's weird and interesting that we get creeped out by flipping (in this case getting something on eBay, selling it for a bit more elsewhere). It's how capitalism works but it's a bit icky up close.

  • To be fair to you, user57349, there was a particular guy a while back, who was obviously bullshitting, whose premise was that he'd bought a bike on the Friday and then on Saturday they'd changed their mind and put the bike straight up for sale again. In actual fact, they'd bought a lemon and were trying to get shot of it.

I'm really not trying to make out that you're doing anything similarly shifty; you just happen to be the guy selling a bike at the moment I chose to reflect on this.
