  • The thought of trying to sand unhardened 2k laquer makes my head hurt. Possibly sympathy migraine just from the smell..

  • In the two weeks since I'd sprayed it the lacquer had sort of hardened, so it wasn't too bad. A little whiffy and prone to clogging, but not too bad. Not playing this game again though - if another carbon bike needs to change colour it'll be going to A Nice Man who can do it for me. Or woman. Anyone but me.

  • Well, it's definitely dry. The clearcoat could do with a quick once-over with some 1200 and a polish, but it's not going to get it as I need the bike for this weekend and the Fred Whitton. I've nearly finished building it up, using parts off old builds and bits from the parts box. There's just the bar tape left, and it's looking like it'll be a reasonably light build at 7.16kg with bottle cages and computer mount but no bar tape. Specs are:

    SRAM Force front derailleur, shifters, and brakes
    SRAM Force WiFli rear derailleur
    SRAM XX 11-32 cassette
    Quarq Riken 10R power meter chainset
    Hope bottom bracket with GXP adaptors
    Ritchey WCS headset
    Ritchey C260 WCS stem
    Ritchey Superlogic Evoluntion 2 handlebars
    Ritchey Superlogic seatpost
    Ritchey bottle cages
    Jagwire dark grey cableset
    Selle Italia Flite Gel Flow saddle
    6700 Ultegra carbon SPD-SL pedals
    Shimano RS80-C24 wheels with Schwalbe ZX tyres (option to run C50s as well)

    Bar tape will be Lizard Skins, my current favourite. I was going to do it last night but all my scissors have travelled through hyperspace to ScissorWorld so I need to get some more. I'll post some pics once it's finished and I get a chance to take some during daylight.

  • It is done. I've changed the stem, because the WCS C260 off the Cervelo was a 100mm stem and the one fitted to this bike previously was a 110mm. And because Wiggle had a 110mm Superlogic stem in the sale, and it seemed rude not to get it so the stem is a Superlogic like the bars and seat post. Anyway, pictures:

    And, for when I need moah aeroz, or just feel like posing, there's the de-stickered C50s to replace the C24s.

    You can't really see it from the photos, but the metallic flakes in the basecoat sparkle quite mightily in the sunshine. Not that there's going to much of that around this weekend at the Fred.

  • Came here to say that this CP was the perfect length for a toilet break read at work, good stuff.
    Bike looks great too...

  • Looks great, 2 things for me... Desticker the everyday wheels, and also , the spacer looks a bit lost under that beastly stem, needs le slam.

  • Cheers. Yep, the chain's a KMC Z10SL DLC. All black, rather than the black and red monstrosity still running on the Dentist's Chair.

  • Can't desticker the C24s as the stickers are underneath the lacquer. If I could've, I would've! The spacer does look a bit lost but that's partially due to the fact that the spacers are @mdcc_tester 's super-skinny superlight spacers. Will try and slam when my flexibility improves sufficiently.

    Oh, and I forgot to mention - it's 7.24kg all up, with bottle cages and computer mount. Reasonably feathery.

  • Nice finish, nice chain. The coloured version is pretty 2006, but all black is workable ;)

    Regardless, excellent job, wish I had the skills to paint mine.

  • Cheers all. The next spray job I have to do is going to be a bright pearl pink. It's not for me, and I've got to make the frame and forks first.
