replacing front chainring

Posted on
  • Hey guys, currently I have sugino messenger rd2 crankset with 42t chainring.
I bought recently Truvativ chainring 48t. Then I realised that it does not fit and its wider.
What should I do buy a new crankset? If yes if there are particular sizes for it? thanks

  • Is it wider, as in 1/8" rather than 3/32" or larger BCD/PCD for the mounting holes? The Truvativ one in your photo is 144mm BCD/PCD (144m bolt/pitch circle diameter - the diameter of the circle that would pitch through the centre of all the fixing bolt holes). Common sizes are 130mm, 135mm & 144mm. Maybe your RD2 crankset is smaller than 144mm?

  • Just checked - the RD2 has 130mm BCD, so you'll need to get that spec chainring to use your existing cranks.

  • Thanks, that is exactly the case. truvativ is 144 and I need 130BCD. was not taking that in consideration.
Thanks guys. Will hunt for 48-49 chainring for 130BCD
