bike rack mod

  • Right.... Iv got a front bike rack that I got of Amazon for somthing like £35. Trouble is that it doesn't fit on my forks too good. So I made a vile little thing to extend it forward so it clears the fork and fits. Plan is to get somthing machined or whatever.
I'm not actually using the rack now so I don't kill myself as the pictures will explain lol.

Any one know where to get somthing like an extention so It clears the fork because of the angle? Or the name for the rubber things with clamps for forks without braze ons ?

  • Thanks! Will give these a look at. :) more options still welcome

  • P clips, not sure if they're ok on cf though.

  • Not going to be carrying anything heavy to be honest. Just the odd 4 pack of beer and spare trainers so should be cool.

  • Like I say I've no idea. If you mount them low down where the fork ends insert might be better.

  • Your adaptor doesn't look too thick, I'd think about mounting it inside the fork leg as it might be flatter in there.

Also, sticking out horizontal like that will last till you go over a bump with a load in the rack, set it up so the plate sits vertically then there's nowhere for it to drop to.

  • Iv got some metal plates that are 3m thino that I can use but need to find a place that can cut them. So these thin ones are only a template kinda thing. But yes good shout on the thing about going over pumps.

  • ...so little thread engaged. consider a switch to uncollared nuts?
if its really for lighter stuff i would forego making stuff just now.. and first try wrap in inner tube, slip old seatpost / vice etc. over it and see if it might be possible to bend struts couple of times near the end to 20-25 degrees total until you can clear dropout.
just suggesting idea. proceed with caution :)

  • I could bend it but it's ally think and not steel. I know steel is easy fairly simple and safe to bend. Not so sure on ally. Going to try p clips first as they are cheap

  • oops! yes, of course do not bend if its alloy.
