Hi,
Having scoured the internet for information, I am desperate for some help.
I have some 600 Ultegra STI shifters and the RHS one is very stiff when I shift up. I did the usual flush with WD40 and regrease etc. but to no avail. I've taken them apart and I think I've tracked down the cause - however I have no idea how to fix it...
With all the housing removed (including the large lever), I imitate an upshift using pliers - this causes the cog type thing in the photo to move clockwise. When it gets to the stiff part of the shift, if I use a tiny screwdriver to lift up this little ratchet thing (see red arrow - I'll call this the claw from now on), then the shift is instantly relieved of the stiffness and shifts fine. Thus, I have concluded that the stiffness is caused by friction between the claw and the cog on which it ratchets.
Anybody have any idea how I may fix this? My only stab in the dark is to possibly loosen the spring (tighten actually) that is pushing the claw onto the cogs... seems like an unlikely solution though. I hope it's not that the inside of the claw is rough from pushing against the cogs which is causing high friction.
Any help very much appreciated! Thank you
