  • I love a Dawes Londener. They are really nicely made frames. I did one up at Union cyCle works for someone at the London Cycling Campaign.

  • Thanks, good shout on the stem mounted shifters.
Re. bars, I'm tempted to go for something quirky-er, like this... Any reason to avoid?

  • Ta! Noice!

  • They are really nicely made frames

Glad to hear it, eBay add didn't have the best pictures but all my steel frame boxes seemed to be ticked.

  • Wont she be offended you've used bars from Toulouse? Weren't there any nice bars from le Nord?!?!

There are a few nice nitto options on PX atm, and another 10% off too

Ha! Imagine bars named "Pas De Calais" she would be impressed (they live in Normandie but she's from "proper" north...)

  • Found these which I'd forgotten about, steel, could spray them if do the frame. Only problem is that the clamping area is quite narrow, only works with some stems (for instance it's not ideal with the Eclypse pictured)

  • Dropped the frame at Mario this morning and decided (as often with Mario) on the color once there... And white Dawes decals (it won't day Londoner but I don't mind)

  • Stupidly I forgot to give him the bars. Which I coupled with a 1 inch steel stem from the bon part. Color matched with the frame these should look nice, though not weight sensitive

  • Then I need to figure out if these could deal with a triple crankset... Any idea?

  • Part bin crankset, I'll need spacers and long chainring bolts to secure the small ring. Lot of work and autosol to clean these up...

  • Striped frame. Luckily Mario had 531ST decals in stock

  • Looking good! Liking the idea of the colour matched bars. Only issue might be your clamps for shifters and brakes once the paint is on -those old suntours can be pretty tight clamp

I reckon those should shift a front three ok - they are the MTB ones arent they?

I didn't give Mario the bars in the end, just the steel stem. I'll buy one of these Humpert bars Spotter suggested.
I'm not sure the Suntour shifters are mtb ones I'll need investigate. You're right btw, clamp is tight.

  • My mum's (surprise) Dawes is now back from Mario, and looking good. Think I may struggle a bit with the canti mounts as frame was for 27-1/4 wheels and I've (stupidly) assumed pad adjustment would do the trick when using 700c wheels. I've a few canti brakes options to try, Shimano, Lee Chi, Tektro, and some Shimano mini Vs. Tektro are definitely out actually. Some hope with the Lee Chis, though I remember the springs being a little weak on these.
Concor saddle's a place holder as she'll probably prefer to keep her current one.
Quite pleased with how the cockpit turned up.

  • Good colour, I had assumed you were moving the canti studs actually.

  • Phew, looks like I'll be fine with either the Lee Chi's, or the Shimanos that came with the frame.
Hope the Lee Chi option will work, I'd already stripped and cleaned them as an option for the Varonha and I don't have that much free time to make good old parts.

  • Looks great already

  • I'm impressed that among those various sets of cantilever brakes there were two which work with the smaller 700c rim. It's great that there is no need to braze on new brake bosses.
