Slowly acquiring parts for a first SS build, and have bought a front Phil. When I turn the axle, I can feel a slight/soft click about 3 times a revolution.
Is this something I should worry about? It's gonna be a few weeks before I can get it on a bike, so want to ensure I've not got a problem.
Thanks in advance.
get some new sealed bearings for the hub pop the old ones out, pop some new ones in
It's brand new! Fresh out the box...
oh ... should be as smooth as a babies bottom in that case
Thanks for your help; I have every faith in the retailer, so will drop them a line.
Spoke to LeRoy at Phil Wood, and he assures me it takes 'a few hundred miles' to properly break in the bearings, and suggested my problem was not a concern.
Sounds like bollocks! A new bearing is a new bearing, and as dickie says should as smooth as a smooth thing from new, you dont have to run ball races in.
Buy cheap, buy twice...
sounds about right to me. seals will wear a bit, grease will spread out. no probs.
