Not the best picture, however, I never had any trouble shifting with mine and they are fully taped. It looks a bit odd with cables sprouting out from the middle of the bars.

Or better, on my Ex Cross Check

Full bar here too and no problems. Just be sure you don't cut the rear shifter cable before everything is done. On my CDF the whole cable journey is almost 2 meters.

Looks quite neat as well, to be fair.

Looking at those images I think preferring how not being under the tape splits the gear cables up from the brake cables, makes for a tidier cockpit I think.
I wonder though if those ones that exit lower are under one or two wraps of tape though.
Like this (though this seems to be an extra wrap of tape over the cable but you get the idea)

When I was mocking up in the garage earlier it seemed like exiting as these examples do would mean the cable might get in the way if I got in the drops which was why Iwas thinking about the v brake noodle,
PS I think the idea of getting away with not retaping my bars might be persuading me slightly!

The cable getting in the way trying to reach the drops was one of the reasons I decided for the whole bar routing. That and I have the feeling they are less annoying if I decide to get a front rack + racktop bag.
From this photo you can see how Prolly got round taping it:

Looked at it again tonight, straight out the shifter and a gentle curve round to the down tube looks cleanest and seems to work pretty well.

Definitely smoother, running them like this. I run them into the opposite stops and cross under the DT for an even smoother curve.I tape the shifter end of the outer in place, so I can offer up the other end to the stop and see what effect different lengths has on where the outer, parts company with the bars. I like to leave the outer long enough for it to run the whole length of the drop.

What is popular opinion on cable routing for bar end shifters?
I'm fitting one to my Pompino so it'll be a full length outer, thusly I'm thinking the fewer bends in the cable the better so I'll not go under the tape at all.
I'm thinking a v brake noodle would do a good job of pulling the cable away from the bars quickly and smoothly.
