For Sale: Early Eddy Merckx frame and fork

  • I've had this gathering dust for the last year after I switched to another frame. Apparently one of the 'Holy Grail' early (1980-1) frames, with signature seat stays and a pantographed fork, although the bottom bracket is not. It appears to be a pre-production frame as the serial number (6-749) does not correspond to the regular numbering system... I'm by no means an expert.

    Size is 56cm square (C-C)

No dents or damage. Chrome is in good condition.
Bad bits are that it's been resprayed (powder coat!!) and there are various scrapes/scratches, including where the back wheel slipped and rubbed the inner chainstay (pictured). Evidence of some previous superficial rust pitting on the top tube (doesn't show on a photo). The headset has also seen better days.

Looking for £350. (Asked for an opinion on value on the 'What is it worth thread' and was told £500-700 even accounting for the respray - I've hopefully priced it at a point to allow someone to get it restored properly)

Pick up and cash in E8 only or can meet in Central London. I don't want to post it as I want whoever buys it to see it first so they know what they're buying.

(PS. I will never make it as a photographer)

  • are you sure it's been powder coated ?

  • Definitely powder coated, although for powder coat it's got a convincing metallic finish - decals are on top of the paint.

  • Going to advertise this in 'the other place'.
