Tx! Seen em on marktplaats too.
Getting really annoyed now lack of time due to exams / training / work means new wheels not built yet.
Going cycling in Scotland next week after ou exam. At least a good reason to have no time :p

Re profile design stem its faux titanium look. So not sure how to get it shiny. Bar de-anodise and polish like f--k.

And so it begins...needs a little more rounding done. With help from Le Manfriend.

Off for the maiden voyage. A few notes:
Miche wheels smooth as silk. Much better than Quando. But never leave em out.. If bearing corrode to hub it's bin time.
Handles gently it steers quick but not a jittery beast.
I now have Go Faster Stripes :)
I can't stretch to a longer stem...this is the limit it has a long reach due to low (9cm) HT
I will now need a TT protector. Off to rummage house for bits.Lovely bike in all :)
Have a pic

So tx for stem, too long for me but I found a few maybes. All MTB, can't find vintage road under 9cm.
Profile MTB looks smooth

don't go with blackspire.. i THINK tester pointed out in a thread that the clamp-cut-on-the-side thing is not a good idea..
-
• #191
Hm guess what my temp cheap ass but comfy hi-rise stem has...I won't be pulling bars then ;)
Very tricky this, VO doesn't go shorter than 8 cm, Thomson X4 is 31.8. Cooper does 31.8 clamp bars, there was some grumbling about this so I went for 25.4 Nitto. Well maybe I get lucky on the 'bay.
I do like the Profile one, but it's a BMX stem.
-
• #192
the deda i sent you plus piegas? compact reach should compensate somewhat.. and the flat transition too
-
• #193
Compacts are possible, but then it's going to be black. I had a loooooooooooooong search, only silver compacts are Nitto in the USA and shipping/import a tad prohibitive.
Or Cooper silver, but that's 31.8. It's all black or 31.8 these days...sigh...it's easier to put risers on but that means at least one night on the sofa... :P

Soma HWY One are nice compact bars that also come in silver! 26mm clamp.
-
• #195
As do some Ritcheys.
-
• #196
Ritchey is 40 cm, The Soma Hwy One Road Bar (31.8/26.0) Center/Width/Color : 26.0mm/38cm/Silver is not currently available.
I can shim the one I have to 26.0 but again vintage clamps for 26.0 are from 9 cm. 8 cm hi-rise is OK but vintage road stems are often vertical or have a minor rise.
There's a gazillion stems on e-bay, surely with some patience...? :)
Or...a threaded 1" fork and a quill.
-
• #197
ow look what I found...
...that or a silver Kore stem, or the Profile BMX stem (if the shipping is acceptable...)
-
• #198
I maintain you should take your forks to a decent bike shop and get them threaded.
-
• #199
There's nobody in Northern Ireland I can trust to not balls that job up. There are no frame builders left, there are good bike shops but I doubt they get asked to do this kinda of work.
Also, it doesn't always work it depends on how thick the steerer is...
Edit: Consulted Le Manfriend, the font of my bike wisdom and he's had a steerer threaded before. No good experiences, very hard to fit the quill stem, steerer needs faced as it won't be perfectly round and he had to saw a stem off as it got stuck.
That leaves: 1" threaded crabon/chrome forks...but a bit of a waste as the Gazelle panto's are so nice.
Or an ahead stem...I'll keep looking. -

I'm with TM on this one. I threaded my own carbon forks alu steering for my ocelot at my lbs. he had the right tools ( whole campagnolo case) and guided me through. The trick is to do it slowly and going half of turn at a time then back again.
