Right that's it: I'm buying a groupset to put my steel Serotta back together. This looks sweet. Look forward to seeing more...

Woah, freaking good, keep the Sram on this frame!
-
• #5
Nice, even the fork might just work.

The modern groupset really works, very nice indeed

Fantastic!

What type of bike stand is that?

My preference would be for a serotta carbon fork but they seem to be exceedingly hard to come by. I had thought about stripping the logos from the time forks but they are under the clearcoat so I think I'll wait until it's fully built to see who it all looks.

I saw one (an F3 I think) for sale on The Paceline a few weeks ago

Bike stand is an Elite : http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/workstands-elite-spindoctor-essential-workstand/elitwork204000000000
It's a flawed design to be honest. The clamps tend to mark the frame (hence the paper towel in the photo)

^^ need to read up about the differences between the serotta forks as well.
Am I right in thinking there is an F1, F2 and F3?
-
• #13
I believe so- I have an F1 on mine.

I put the frame on the scales before I built it up and compared it to my cannondale synapse carbon frame from 2008. Total frame and fork for the Serotta we 2600g vs 2015g for the cannondale. The Cannondale sounds heavy for a carbon frame and the serotta light for a 1997 steel frame.
Overall pleasantly surprised.

Damn...
Hi Golgol,
I wish I could be of more assistance, however, our F3s only come with 1 1/8" steerers. Currently, this is all we have in stock.
Congrats on your purchase and we hope that you enjoy your frame!

More parts.... Cables cut and fit last night.

I encountered a bit of a problem mounting the bottle cages. The bottle cage screws will only go in so far before they hit some fairly major resistance... Looking inside the bottom bracket and headtube there is a fair amount of rust which makes me think that the bolt holes may be suffering from the same thing - I've soaked them in wd40 today to see if that helps.
Opinion seems to be divided whether waxoyl treatment is worth it but must admit that I'm tempted based on what I've seen so far.
On a different note I am planning on using a shim on the 1" steerer to use the 1 1/8" 3T stem I have. Will this self destruct causing caustrophic death or is the general consensus that this is okay?

shims are totally fine, go for it

:) as you know i love this frame and i'm glad to see this project
great bike!!! -

Thanks Noca - should have Mk1 up and running this week. Longer term plans for forks and wheels might change after I get a feel for how it rides.

I'm commuting on mine at the moment, let me know when yours is done and I'll swing by Monmouth on the way in.

wasn't sure about the white but it looks great. Even the white sram hoods have slotted in nicely..
-

when i first saw this frame i imagined it with Sram Red and black wheels. :)
That's why i'm already loving this project.
I prefer the 3t ergonova Team handlebarsthis will be a awesome bike

The colour is a lovely pearl white - I haven't captured it in my shoddy photography efforts thus far.

Not exactly what I would call ideal test ride conditions but I managed to get 70k in this morning before the numb toes and fingers got the best of us.
Ecstatic with the frame; it's a real rocket... Much more so than I thought it would be.
Still a few things to do... Chop the steerer, new bar tape, sort some normal length valve extenders, maybe new brakes. I will try and get some decent photos if I get a chance this week.

A steel frame has long been on my wishlist - a Serotta or Eddy Merckx being top of the list . Recently the right frame came up for the right price and I collected this last week from a very nice forum member - fedeaeclub. His dad had recently retired the frame as he no longer had a need for a road frame.
Initially I will be doing a direct swap of most of the parts on my existing road bike which will mean they are a lot more modern than the frame. I would rather do this than try and keep things period correct as it will be my main road bike and the benefits of modern kit are too hard to ignore.
I started to get the parts together today.
More parts arriving this week so should progress towards completion fairly quickly.
