  • looks like it's in decent condition!

  • The Colnago MTB frames are proper popular in Germany. There's lots of em. I've a German mate from Frankfurt who owns 6, though none for sale :(

You'd probably be better searching German eBay, the Germans aren't so keen on second-hand frames so likely cheaper.

  • It looks pretty good, yes. I came to an agreement with the seller so this bike soon will be mine. :-)

For a moment I even regretted leaving this evening for Italy so I can't pick it up already...

I have the impression prices in Germany for vintage bikes tend to be rather high (compared to Belgium, The Netherlands or France); I check bikesale.de regularly and those prices are rather ebay'ish, I'd say. Do you know less known sites?

  • vintage italian mtbs seem to be getting more interest, i got 3 cinelli and two pinarello (one max) mtb's i need to complete, still miss the master mtb though

  • My first mtb (1991) was a Scott Windriver with Shimano DX, I was too poor right than to buy that years' Pro Racing with Columbus Max tubing. If one day one like those would pop up...

  • i had a cinelli max mtb stolen with full record or, poss only one in uk
this nos master is for sale

    and this

both are ebay examples pretty much at ceiling for prices, also both have been listed a few times, so perhaps the market does not see the value the vendors do
this is the cinelli 'the next machine' that got stolen from me,

  • the onlt colnago mtb i have now is this made from aelle,26 wheels and mtb geo, cost me 50 euros before rebuild

  • also, still await photos of the mexico 'gifted' by Ernesto, pot vendor says he's got the matter in hand

  • The older Master mtb's are great because of the steel Gilco tubing but I don't like their geometry (that go's for every "old style" mtb IMO).

  • eager to see that one!

  • don't know whether it'll all be a crock of shite tbh

  • tt are pretty much road length, st is shorter, they are a little on the heavey side, but mine rode nice with campag olympus gruppo

  • this one has taken it's time to finish

    here's the rub

the gruppo is tri color panto sr, but i was not comfortable with the stem, it's too early for the frame, mid to late 70's and frameset is circa '84
the man the decor is named after was always pictured with a black stem, with a square, white font on the colnago panto detail

so i managed to recently score a black stem with period correct font , and tri color detail, just needs a little re touch on the front left side

and i can use the earlier stem on a 77 build, and the forks will go as i have the sloping crown ones

  • I'm putting together a near identical build but with a white Rolls. Saronni red.

  • nice!

  • Having a job finding a clean black stem also...

  • That looks truly beautiful @saarf. It just looks so right in every way. Must've taken a while to get that component group together or did you buy it like that anyway?

Now it appears you finishing that has come just at the right time as if by fluke. You see I've just sold off a couple of wheel sets and have amassed a generous £85 in the bank. Now where normally I would expect after finishing such a gorgeous project you wouldn't dream of selling it but you must admit at £85 you must be dumbfounded at such a generous offer. Please don't think such generousity comes with a catch as it doesn't, I'd just pleased to make your day for all the little tips you've passed my way. I'm sure you're already wondering how you can reinvest such a large sum in a new project but I might just have it for you. I read somewhere on here of a guy who is selling the colnago Ernesto gave to the pope. It's the real deal, if only I could remember where I read it now ;-)

  • thanks,
all components sourced individually , brake set, stem, seatpost, crankset and dt shifters are all tri color panto
i will do a 77 refurb with pretty much full panto as well, just awaiting frame finishing

  • i've seen these routed calipers listed as colnago panto on other bikes, these will go on the 77

these ones on the saronni are tri color

    the hubs

  • Who makes these Colnago hubs? They look a bit Ofmega style...

  • Liking the C Record/Delta set up. I was gonna go down this route with a donor groupset from anther bike but was all 2nd gen C Record so too modern :(

  • Brilliant group set to work on IMO, good to cycle also, I really need to make the move to clipless to get full use out of it!

  • The rear hub is lush - is this the sealed bearing version or cup and cone? It all goes together very nicely.
