We have a very leisurely 4 days to do it but this is good if we need to make up any time. Thank you.
Any ideas for a uk-based bank hol bike trip? Ideally something off tarmac with spots for secluded bivvys, and within easy (and cheap!) train distance from London.
Found these nice looking routes on bikepacking.com
South Downs way.
Thameslink only ticket London-Brighton is pretty cheap, although you could go to Winchester or Eastbourne and start there.
any of the bikepacking weekend routes I organised !
South Downs is a good shout, though I've done a little tour there before so was looking to go slightly further afield. Though the close proximity/cheap tickets are definitely a bonus!
@platypus where can I find those routes?
Look like you and I are heading to Vancouver in September.
Info here on cycling in the Downs
Three friends and I enjoyed this route earlier in the summer, some beautiful remote bits
have a look through each trip!
Legend. Nice one. I'll take a look.
Friday afternoon trip planning made me notice this strange orange line on the open cycle maps
Visible just above Stretford
Anyone know what it is? There's a few others, look to be mostly bridleway routes. That one looks super interesting though, it ends at the start of the peddars way. Can't find any info on it though and would love to know!
Dreamy! Anyone have any experience?
Thinking of trying the bit between Baldock and Newmarket and wandering about tyre choice.
I did this a couple of years back
Started at home in Norwich, cycled to the start and ended up at Radnage in the Chilterns (think i was on the ridgeway at that point)
Then went back home (i needed lower gears, the hills over there did my knee in)
Its a beautiful ride.
I did it on 35mm tyres on my Cotic Escapade with no trouble at all, that was august though and was totally dry.
these pictures are possibly from the section you are talking about
There was also some pushing..
Thanks for the tip on the Icknield Way Trail...spent Saturday rolling along a section of it starting in Thetford. Made for a fun day out in the sun. Thetford end is pretty sandy and shops are few and far between on the trail (helps if you bring your own supplies) and the number of pedestrian gates means that having a bike you can throw over a fence definitely helps things
Enjoyed this Japan tour vid from xdomx insta page:
