  • for illustration;

    versus

second photo it looks like the lettering is about to fall of...

  • Fall off as in land on the floor, or doesn't fit the tube?

Bear in mind that these tubes are swaged- the diameter by the BB shell is significantly larger than the headtube/seat-cluster end, which might contribute to the latter (if that's what you mean).

  • mmmm no thats not what i meant. i meant the "direction" of the lettering on the drive side is vertical, whilst on non driveside, this direction due to the mirroring becomes almost horizontal. which makes them look like "theyre about to fall off".
    i dont like that aesthetically...

anyways im pissing vinegar here, big props for the resto and momentum.

    i do hope it fits

  • Ah, gotcha- see it now. Hmm.

  • as said, it does look to be a serotta normal thing. its "correct". but i wouldve done it differently.

or only post drive side shots from now on...;)

  • I guess you could take a scalpel and separate the letter, then rotate them.

They are genuine Serotta decals, and checking some images of others the vertical DS horizontal NDS is how it is done.

  • Mine's the same on the NDS, had never noticed it previously though.

I'm in Bury st Edmunds Dammit. I'm going to have to invest in some new wheels if they're being photographed side by side, the anodising has started to come off the archetypes after a few autumn rides, so clearly they'll need upgrading

  • can't unsee.

    ;)

  • I'm fine with it- it's the "proper" way of doing it.

  • I think it would look weirder if the letters were rotated for the NDS. The logo is the logo… slanted to the right gives it a nice 'fast' italic look, backslanted to the left it would look a bit odd, a bit upright.

  • No I haven't.

I would think that a quill stem (has the potential) to give quite a high front end.

I guess I could ask LukeG to get busy with the tape measure.

Thats he thing. My problem is that my headtube is so short the bottom of the quil, bottoms out before the stem is slammed.

  • Get a bicycle with a huger bottom bracket, job done.

  • One way of thinking about the logo... on one side it's going uphill, on the other it's downhill. *Kind of a representation of the different journeys you will take on the bicycle.**

*I should write marketing blurb for Campagnolo.

(A small detail but the sidewalls on the Veloflex look great against the frame colour.)

  • this thread needs more pictures of said bicycle...

  • I'll hopefully get to build it toward the end of the week, then there shall be photographs a-plenty.

  • No progress made on building the bike up I'm afraid, but my axles turned up- I went for Chinese ones this time, and they appear to be 1:1 copies of the standard axles (apart from the metal) rather than the Ward ones which are a new design.

    Stock Chromo:

    Titanium:

And for reference here is a Ward spindle which I used on my System Six (and the bike-that-will-never-come):

  • the the price difference between ward and china?

  • strike[/strike] And the bike that already exists somewhen ...

    surely?

  • the the price difference between ward and china?

I think the chinese ones are about half the price.

  • About that, the Chinese ones are on eBay as "lollipop pedal titanium axles" or similar, the Ward ones you have to contact via email, and they are approximately twice the price.

I think the Ward ones are a better design, and they are better finished, but wanted to give these a go.

  • Given they take your weight I'd want the better finished product but I am a fat bastard, so tend not to want to use lightweight parts due to the heavyweight engine.

  • The Chinese ones have (rather obviously) more material.

Of course, what the material is, is open to question.

At 75kg I'm willing to risk it- Speedplay rate their axles to 85kg and Ward rate theirs to 95.

  • Do you have the replacement technique down now then?

That was always the scary part for me

  • I put up a post about it in Mech&Fixing, it's straight forward if you take your time.

  • Did you get to build it up yet? Can't wait to see this built up.
