One of the fastest Tour de France prologues ever and I think a similar distance to a lap around the isle of Dogs, was at was In the 2004 Tour, Fabian Cancellara, claimed the Prologue in 6 minutes and 51 seconds — an average speed of 33.22 mph. I would not be dispirited however because, as nice as your machine is, a modern time trail bike would give you a 10% advantage at least and also Fabian was probably on the gear so I think with a bit of training and a modern time trailing bike you could for certain win any grand tour prologue!

So what you're saying is that if Cancellara had been riding my bike then he could have gone even faster?
Well that's certainly good news for any potential buyer. We had a dry day, only 5kms round that bit and people to draft. I found that times can be improved if you go drinking for 11 hours afterwards too.

• #16
nice bicycle!
-
• #17
Thank you. I think so too.
I particularly like the expertly wrapped bar tape, and the pretty down tube shifters. -
• #18
headtube looks very tall for a 54cm frame!
-
• #19
I just double checked.
That is measured along the seat tube from the centre of the BB to the approx centre of the top tube. It's about 56 cm centre to top.The top tube length is actually a bit longer now I have measured it again, and its more like 55.5 centre to centre. That's bespoke frames for you.

Hubs they are c record.....?
-
• #25
I'm not entirely sure.
They look like C Record, but whereas the 7 speed (definitely C Record) hubs have pointy bearing caps, the 8 speed ones have flat ones. Maybe this means they are Chorus, or maybe they changed it when they went to 8 speed or sometime after that. Here's a pic of the rear hub

**I'm selling my road bike, due to lack of space, lack of riding fast on roads, and lack of money. **
It is built around a Steve Goff road frame, hand-made in Skelmersdale, Lancs, by a proper artisan. Ask anyone who owns one and they'll tell you the quality is exceptional.
This one is 55.5cm top tube CTC and 54cm seat tube CTC (56cm CTT), made in the late 80s or early 90s and is made from Birmingham's finest tubing at the time the legendary Reynolds 753. This is of course 222 more awesome than 531. It's really light weight, and the tubes make a lovely 'ting!' sound when you tap them, just like they should. It's got short racing geo, mounts for a bottle cage, and lovely fastback seat stays in the Harry Quinn style.
It's got some nice lugs, with a cast fork crown (complete with Reynolds pantographing), seat lug, rear brake bridge and bottom bracket shell.
The paint is decent quality, blue fading to silver at the bottom, with chrome Campagnolo dropouts and fork-ends. It's pretty good for a 20-25 year old bike, but it's not perfect. There are little nicks, and lock rash, plus I had to retouch the BB shell underneath with some brush enamel.
I spent a lot of time and money fitting out the bike with the prettiest kit, almost all from the C-Record and contemporary Chorus groupsets.

Huge photos of everything are HERE!**
This bike is a fast old thing. When we last got away with riding the closed route of a popular distance running race I averaged* 30mph round a bit of the Isle of dogs, and got up to 40mph along the embankment. And I am a fat slow old person. It was great at being ridden at those speeds. The fastest I ever did was 48mph downhill along Holland Park Avenue, shortly after which I decided to remove the cycle computer before I killed myself trying to beat 50. Imagine how fast all you energetic youthful thin people can go.
So, how much am I asking for this beauty? Just £600 gets you the complete bike, plus alternative Campag rear mech and hubset, and no doubt the envy of your peers, and admiration of your chosen sexual partmers too.
I spent a long time and a fair bit of money collecting all the parts to make this bike perfect, and as such I would rather sell it as a complete bike than split it.
I have no intention of posting it. I wouldn't trust the postmen not to break it in some way. Therefore it's for collection from Bethnal Green, Southwark, or East Beers. I could also deliver it via the magnificent Panzerwagen if you're not too far away.
Payment by cash please, or bank transfer if I know you.
Expressions of interest by the usual hotch-potch of posting, PMs, dibs etc.
Courtesy thread bumping, expressions of horror at the price, pleas to split, questions etc in the thread below.
