  • If it give me something to tick in the box when signing up to ride, yes.

I always have to tick "cycling club - others".

  • ^ Exactly that.

If it helps make it easier for you to individually participate with very little additional overhead. Then that's a good thing.

  • Nah. I'd dictate the basic mission, structure and design, it would be done end-to-end in a very short time, and ride roughshod over the opinions of others.

I've already stated pretty much what it would be like... minimal, for all definitions of the word.

It would simply be there, for people to choose to use, to allow access to greater resources (facilities) and to be a springboard for those who get a taste and will progress to other clubs.

It's an understated grass-roots thing, a banner to give people the means to do things that they might not otherwise have done, very easy to join, very little investment required.

All systems, operations, merchandise, etc will be the bare minimum.

People won't get a say in that.

What people will get a say in, and absolute control of, is how they choose to use it. As in, "this is what it is" will be done, and "this is what you can do" is something you all get to answer however you want.

I'd rather people focus less on the club, and more on riding, events, doing stuff.

And that stuff is for people to self-organise as it is today, the only difference is that you'd have a BC affiliated club name to use should that make a difference to the event needs.
100 x "**I'd rather people focus less on the club, and more on riding, events, doing stuff."

**Wouldn't you need/want a good project manager though David? And insurance/legals would need to be considered?

  • If it means access to the indoor velodrome, count me in.

    What Kev said...

Maybe Club Membership could be a new tier of donation?
i.e - Two gold stars means you have pony'd up the subs and registered as an official forum clubman wanker.

  • Please don't let this be another management by committee farrago...

If the club is bare-bones and you guys are doing all of the events, rides, etc... then what money does the club need?

But should it need some, it'd be figured out. It would be nice to have fees be optional. Anyone wishing to race would still need a personal BC fee, and any event would have it's own one-off fees, and if we have low overheads I'd rather just enable people to use the club banner without there being a cost obstacle.

  • Please don't let this be another management by committee farrago...

    It won't be. I'm being a dictator.

  • It won't be. I'm being a dictator.
It will be good to see something get off the ground, in that case.

  • And insurance/legals would need to be considered?

The point of affiliating to BC etc. is to get their liability insurance for club officers

  • Dictatorship of the doers = fine by me. Just let me know when I can pay my money to join up / get the kit, and get access to the velodrome. Thats all I really need to know.

  • And insurance/legals would need to be considered?

If people want race insurance they have to join BC anyway (silver minimum), if people want insurance for day to day stuff then BC/CTC/LCC.

The club does not need to worry with this sort of stuff, just needs affiliation to BC.

If allowing children into the ranks then a welfare officer will be needed. Other than the stuff to form the club, that is about it.

  • What's wrong with chevrons on a jersey?

  • I'd rather just enable people to use the club banner without there being a cost obstacle.

You can have no subscription fee, but I think you might need a register of members.

  • Being in a cycling club won't be the deciding factor as to whether you get to use Stratford or not. It will be a very normal process of acreditation.

There's no way they'll let a load of LFGSSCC people loose on a £1m piece of Siberian pine

  • Yes, but it will help towards the forum being able to book out the space for events.

  • If allowing children into the ranks then a welfare officer will be needed. Other than the stuff to form the club, that is about it.

No children, the forum policy is adults only and the club would mirror that.

  • The forum policy is adults only

    Thats been a roaring success

  • i already put "LFGSS" down as my "club" during the shitty pretend competitive rides that i do and i basically always ride with my LFGSS jersey on, so I'm basically a member anyway. I'd like to see "LFGSS" as an option for "club name" on the Audax UK membership form as it would give me warm fuzzies. I can't really articulate why.

  • I think its a great idea, I'm not into participating in races but would love to come along and support any LFGSS track days at the velodrome, that would be amazing. And who knows I maybe so taken in that I'd want to have a go next time, I'm sure others would be the same, so it ticks all the promoting cycling boxes.

Most clubs seem a bit too serious and seem to have mostly early morning rides. The 'fuck it, that looks a laugh', rides that start at midday and rides centred around visits to pubs in and around London is the LFGSS style I signed up for.

Being in a permanent state of skintness I'd hope it was not too expensive to join, though I'd happily pay extra for special events like days at the velodrome.

And a decent jersey for the blokes is long overdue to replace the shark pit monstrosity and I totally approve of your minimal plain black jersey with small LFGSS on the chest, hoorah, I'd buy one of those, or rather I'll start saving up for one.

    Do it.

  • I'm in.

Even if only for the excuse to buy a new jersey as my Brixton Cycles one seems to have shrunk in the wash*

Also plus one for dictatorship too as it means shit gets done

*by shrinking it means I've eaten too much pizza and drunk too many beers

    Zing.

    All them fuzzies FTW.

  • If this is what we have to do to get forum closed* track sessions at Stratford then let's find out what is required, get on with it and get it done.

    Props to David as ever.

*as in, not open to the public.

  • I'm already whoring myself out to enough clubs. There's no reason not to create one though.

  • "Being in a cycling club won't be the deciding factor as to whether you get to use Stratford or not. It will be a very normal process of accreditation."

What is "the normal process of accreditation" for using Stratford?

"There's no way they'll let a load of LFGSSCC people loose on a £1m piece of Siberian pine."

Why not? I can't think of a more deserving and responsible bunch... No seriously, why not?

  • My club is mainly active in the Midlands. I basically just use it as a banner for the tiny number of events that I enter.

If the option was there, I'd consider being a member.
