  • Just get a son, no better option.

  • True as that may be, it doesn't answer his question.

Speaking as someone who owns a few SONs and recommends them to everyone, I still find the serviceability idea of the Kasai is worth a look.

  • Sons are £65 to be serviced, of course not a home job mind

How often do they need a service on average?

  • How often do they need a service on average?

No idea. Never met anyone that's owned one

Here in the states you have to unlace it before sending it in and deal with Peter White's grump to boot.

Peter is actually super friendly. I get to chat with him a few times a month.

  • Service intervals on Son are massive though right?

Still. Not a hub to ride through rivers with.

  • Same here. Or if you send back a wheel there is a £20 charge for them to se build and re build it

  • Just a bit of a cross post, but looking for a SON 28 or delux dynamo hub for disc brakes. QR axle is fine.

  • I have a son28 in the shed, it will
Be black 32h but canny remember axle!

  • Sounds good to me. 32h is no prob. Can always convert 12mm to qr with adapter.

  • For a budget minded disc/qr dynamo, is it worth spending the extra for the XT/Alfine over the likes of a dh-3d32?

Will be running front and rear lights so want a 3w hub.

  • Look at jtek, got them on 3 bikes and cannot fault, just use the sp connector box though

  • I spotted it on the sjs site, presumed it was an SP clone and I’d read that shimano, certainly the Alfine/XT level hubs, were meant to be a bit more reliable.

  • Alfine / xt are good, no lying there, but Jtek no issues, cheaper and sealed bearings...

  • Good to know.

I have an Alfine on my cargo bike, I think it needs the bearings looking at. Should really get around to doing it.

  • Looking for a 24h rim brake dynamo hub, anyone selling before I buy new?

  • Thanks all for the 15mm ta hub recs btw. Ended up going for SP, have to buy a few for trailers. Not a lot of choice out there really in any case!

No recommendations, but very curious - what's that going on?

  • Got a 24h xr31t I’d like to build into a dynamo wheel :)

  • Has anybody recently picked up a cache battery that supports through-charging? The Zendure, as recommended a year ago, seems to require USB-C charging according to the manual (smallest current model). I guess that might mean it'll just charge really slowly from a Sinewave Revolution.

I've tried a small Anker one which works, but seems to reset when I come to a stop at a junction for eg and the Revolution stops charging it. The battery then carries on charging, but it doesn't send power out without pushing the button again. Bit of a PITA.
