Mudguards you can paint?

  • Hey,

Will be starting a new project, and i've decided it NEEDS mudguards after the last few "summers". Am thinking of powdercoating the frame and the mudguards to match.

All the mudguards I see are plastic and i can't imagine take to powder coating/painting well. Anybody know where I can get some that are fine painted?

  • You'll be wanting metal ones like this:

  • Many of the 'plastic' ones are plastic coated aluminium, so there's the potential to strip this off by various means.

I have some spare ones and also a pair of 1980s stainless steel 'guards that could be coated, if you're interested.

  • You can get plastic mudguards in a range of colours, dont know why you would want to go about doing this.

  • ^^ but the plastic 'coating' also provides a lot of their strength. Somehow remove it and you'd be left with something not much stronger than takeaway tray foil.

    ^ This.

Get the Gille Berthoud in the correct size, send it off to get it painted and drill/fit them, they're steel but still lighter than those SKS jobbies.
