Wanted: Beater 27" wheelset in South London?

  • My current set is now pretty badly buckled and I don't have the know how to true them (scared of making the situation worse as currently they are my only ride).

Anyone have a spare set (straight/true)? Ideally with a 5/6 speed freewheel, but not essential.

  • I have a nice-ish set of Rigida rims on Shimano Via 6-spd cassette hubs, a 6spd cassette is included for £30. They are true enough and spin nicely. Collection SE1/Waterloo

  • Spokes are galvanised I just noticed (but not rusty), call it £25!

  • may be interested if stevek1ng isn't..

  • Thanks retro but they might be a little bit too nice - funds are tight in the run up to payday and I'm currently scraping cash together for a new build, so I only need something to keep me going.

Out of interest - my current rear has a 5 speed threaded freewheel (I have to pinch the rear stays down to 120mm so I'm assuming a 6 speed would fit). Would a 6 speed cassette hub work as well?

  • Short answer is yes, 6spd will be fine. Spacing is 126 but sounds like your frame is around there anyway, even if it was 120 it would probably spring to 126. If you're after something really crap I can offer some steel rims on no name hubs for a tenner. Personally I would say it's a false economy but the offer's there!

  • @ onyerbike, sounds like you may be in luck... watch this space!

You are probably right there. Hold on though - are the rigida/shimano's 27"? My brake callipers won't reach to 700c :-/

  • You asked for 27" - I'm offering 27"!

  • Ok - I'll take them. Sorry @onyerbike.

Are you available anytime tomorrow retro?

  • Had a short ride on the wheels today - all good, no problems, way better than my previous set.

    Thanks a lot @retro_di_corsa!

  • good news ;-)
