LPs rule, your fucking mp3 pick n choose a song rubbish killed the best thing in music, the album.
True dat.
However, let's not forget that the 80s were when even well-produced albums started to sound shit because of the advance of digital recording.

You'll need to apologise for each and every one separately, I'm afraid. One blanket apology just won't do. :)

[Hm, it won't let me submit this post in one chunk, so let's try to split it up.]
I didn't find much that I liked in the 80s. The vast majority of what I listen to is earlier. These aren't so much musical as lyrical selections, as that's really what I'm interested in. No particular order.
Lou Reed - New York. My favourite album. I also love the two follow-ups, Songs for Drella (with John Cale) and Magic & Loss (both in the 90s), but none of his subsequent work.

The Kinks - Since they're my favourite band, I like almost anything by them (except for 'Schoolboys in Disgrace' and some of the other early 70s stuff, obviously). 80s albums include State of Confusion, Think Visual, and UK Jive.

The Housemartins - London 0 Hull 4, The People Who Grinned Themselves to Death, Now That's What I Call Quite Good (compilation). I always liked Paul Heaton's lyrics from that time, although not his later work.
The Housemartins - Build - YouTube
Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman and Crossroads
Tracy Chapman - All that you have is your soul - YouTube
The Hooters - Nervous Night and One Way Home. I don't think that these have great lyrics, but they're the first band I liked, so they have a place here for nostalgic reasons. I still like some of the songs very much.
the Hooters - South Ferry Road + lyrics - YouTube
BAP - Zwesche Salzjebäck un Bier
Midnight Oil - I like a lot of their work from the 80s, but mainly Bird Noises, Species Deceases, Diesel and Dust and Blue Sky Mining. Favourites are really individual songs like 'The Dead Heart' or 'Gunbarrel Highway'. I've always liked their lyrics.

Billy Joel - Storm Front
Billy Joel - And So It Goes - YouTube
I can't think of a tenth favourite, although there are obviously other 80s things that I like.
