  • Anybody think the organisers are taking this way too seriously? It's only a bike ride for fuck's sake.

This. I'm getting the impression that digging Crossrail is an easier undertaking.

Maybe they'd like drill a tunnel through the bottom of Leith Hill in time for Sunday

  • Or a funicular?

  • Registered this morning at the Exel. Avoid the Lower Lea Crossing, it's rank. If you have to take it, there is a bike path to the right of the west bound carriage way... which I only spotted when halfway over on the way back.

Well manned, plenty of check-in staff. Bring a couple of big locks or take your bike inside. They seemed ok with this though it was very quiet. I imagine they won't be so keen at the weekend or past 5pm today and tomorrow. There are some bike racks if you go down the steps to the left of the entrance but they're a bit sketchy.

The bike show is pretty whatever though there is a BMC prototype TT bike which is mental.

Your starting point is the colour of your number, I'm black. All you need is I.D. and the letter. If registering for someone else you need a letter from them confirming this.

  • Or a funicular?

    Would be more fun

  • thanks dbr

Thanks for this, hopefully they will let me in with my bike at 7.30pm!

Seriously worried about this now. Haven't trained in three weeks due to family and the mother of all head colds. Went out on the bike two days ago and couldn't breathe. Needless to say, I will not be latching onto a fast group, though will keep an eye out for TTM, mjs and Dan W.

What are you trying to say! ;-)

  • ^This

(Will hang back for the first 95 miles or so if it helps)

  • Got my numbers, will decorate the bike tonight. Might even clean it and oil the chain.

  • Did they tell you about the black or blue start thing?

Little worried that the race organizers seemed to have believed the lies i told on the application form about me being a former professional road cyclist - I seem to be in the opening waves.

  • you're really starting before 6?!

  • I thought the first wave was off at 06:00. Maybe they did believe you and are sending you off on your own first as 20,000 hungry cyclists stare you down, ready to pounce.

  • Tommy I think they've got you leading out Sagan

  • Pop a wheelie

  • Just to check- registration letter and passport=all you need? Or do I need anything else?

Passport? For a ride around London? Foh shizzle?!

  • Surrey is in France.

  • Sorry I had put my load time

  • Godamn, I'm going to have to make the most of that 4 minutes.

  • If anyone fancies a wind break for the ride, i'm tempted to hang on to Borris

  • had a mosey round the show yesterday, missed most of it due to arriving late, but the Pearl Izumi stand has loads of sample sale stuff, mens and womens Mediums only, all jerseys £20, shorts/tights £30, jackets £40. bargainous. they were expecting new stock this morning.

  • 91% humidity at 7am on Sunday. Wut.

  • Ok, how to get there- they say that the bridges will be closed to cyclists, but does that simply mean that you can get off and walk your bike along the pavement?
