I was really impressed with myself for the 5:00:22 time, and I felt like I was on the rivet the whole way. Turned myself inside out for my 5hrs.
Some of the times getting posted by you lads is humbling.

  • ^ This. Under four hours boggles my mind.

  • Surprised by the number of people using gels before even getting out of the waves, also the number of people who seem to rely on the feed stations, one women almost in tears at Newlands because they didn't have any gels.

Gels are very much a last resort for me, only had one yesterday as it was the only thing I could reach in my pocket.

  • Highlight of my ride was the chicken tikka and spinach wrap after Newlands.

Only so many bananas and nakd bars I can eat.

    Gels can >>>>>

  • I'm the same - was happy to have got through it without using any (3 x cliff bars - one each hour for first 3 - and then 1.5 packs of shotblocks). Cracked big time on Walworth Road on my ride home afterwards though, just like last year, and had to neck one of those lime High5 things - disgusting. Worked, though.

  • Also had a brief chat with a tall chap on what looked like a custom build Roberts.
He had a distinct whiff of "on here" about him.

    #SteelIsReal

I was out on a pink Roberts, spoke to another guy on a lovely dark blue fillet-brazed one. Dunno if I give out vibes of on here though ... Not many skinny steel frames out among all the fat-tube bling.

Lots of debris: I was an earlyish start and could have picked up three or four pumps, half a dozen inner tubes, a dozen or more bidons, and umpteen thousand gel wrappers.

Lots of bellends too: just because you're in a club and on a mission doesn't make it OK to force your way through a gap that ain't there, even if you have called out "right" to people who don't know what you mean.

  • RIP rider.

In my rush in the morning, I managed to pack 5 different types of fuel, (wiggle gel, OTE gel, those cola chewy energy sweets, date and cashew bar, lucazade) so my stomach currently feels like a bag of fermenting compost.

Hopefully next year, hopefully I'll drop 12kg, get fitter, work in a team and do under 4:40.

  • Can only see the freecycle pictures so far

  • Have you put your bib/name in here? The photos are trickling through - I had four last night, and now there are seven...

  • Fully agree that #SteelisReal

I did it on my downtube friction shifter equipped Pearson...

  • Calling all London Ride 100'ers who may be able to help me. I was involved in a crash yesterday around 10miles in near Trafalgar Square and Whitehall. I was knocked out and have no recollection of events, but from reports from people who helped so far it seems that a drunk black youth appx 6ft in jeans, black t-shirt with large writing on it had been causing trouble and obstructing the road, subsequently causing the accident.
From the garmin data I can see that I was just over 10miles into the ride. I departed at 6:21 and then after 29mins I had the crash. I hit the guy at appx 24mph and was sent flying off my bike head first 6meters down the road. The suspect ran off before the stewards could get hold of him.
I spent 7 hours in hospital yesterday. In some respects I was very lucky, no broken bones and the helmet did its job as it is now in a sorry state. I have lost one front tooth and chipped another and I have pretty nasty facial injuries. I was knocked out for 20-30sec and still have no memory of what actually happened. I didn’t even recall that another TCC member had stopped to assist or that a soldier was there trying to protect me from the other riders coming through.
I will be chasing up with the police again today to try and get them to be more proactive with the cctv in the area at the time of the accident. But wondered if anyone else riding yesterday noticed any trouble in that area around 6:40-7:00am from drunks causing disruption it would be really helpful as i'm trying to get as much info as possible to piece together what happened. Thanks to those that have already helped.

Saw this appeal for info from a TCC rider (Aimee Billington) involved in a crash yesterday. If anyone can give her some info, please get in touch with Twickenham Cycle Club.

  • Heal up Rider, will post on our club site as we had riders going out around that time.

  • got round in 8hr25. had a fun ride for most of it and was interesting to talk to some of the riders and hear their opinion on the more 'serious' guys who were barking orders at them to 'keep left' and 'on the right!'.
i can see where they are coming from to be honest. these guys are just out for a fun day bumbling along. the faster more confident riders should be with others of the same ability. but thats the issue, i don't think it will ever be possible to have a situation where everyone is of the same ability.
my neck and shoulders are killing me from having to look left and right about a zillion times yesterday. there was so much litter though. insane amount.
some poor family will get the news we all dread. really feel for them.

  • Thanks just the two of me so far, I always look so dam miserable in these event photos.

  • RIP rider.

There were bidons all over the road after each one I crossed.

Arundel Mandible and bottles <= 750ml FTW. Most of the lost bottles were 1 litre jobbies.

Yelled at a guy who threw a gel wrapper on the road in front of me. Also lots of banana skins and a couple of squashed bananas... not ideal, but nowhere near as many gel wrappers as the Etape.

  • Got hit in the face by a rider's spit and the tearable part of his gel as he spat it out. He heard me exclaim and apologised and put the remaining gel pack in his back pocket, but reckon he would have chucked it if I wasn't there...

  • Yuck! I inadvertently swallowed a fly and spewed lots of fluid. Made sure there was no one in the slip stream.

  • That photo illustrates why I only have four... couldn't find a good spot to mount the helmet sticker.

  • I do believe they pool all the pics that they haven't attributed to a rider. Gawd only knows if there'll be some kind of ingenious way of filtering them, though.

  • Yes, I saw this last night and there is a way to filter - you choose various things like helmet colour, bike colour, jersey etc. But I can't find the mythical 'more photos' link today.

There were some seriously quick groups flying through. Last year I was frustrated having to fight through the general populous, but this year with a 6:15 start it was much better.

  • Did anyone else have a powermeter? If so, what was your average and NP?

  • Average 221, weighted average 248
The bulk of the ride (36%) was in Z1 with an even spread across 2-7, including 11% in Z6.
