problem with my nuts - please advise

Posted on
  • So i've just started building my planet X fixie. The frame and seat post are second hand and I've only now realised that one of the seat post bolts has a completely worn thread meaning I can't attach the saddle. After going to a bike shop and phoning planet X both have advised me that I need a whole new seat post. Now for a 14mm piece of metal this is kinda bumming me out and I still can't believe there is no way of salvaging the post. I've attached a picture of the offending nut which I think i've identified as a 14mm M6 barrel nut? Is there anyone here who could confirm that for me and possibly recommend a good place to pick one up or failing that can I just use another nut and washer combo to achieve the same operation?

    Cheers everyone

  • Is there enough room to (ugly bodge) fit a m6 nyloc bolt on the other side of the barrel?

  • ah yeah that could work. thanks

  • I think they sell packs of 2 barrel nuts, with long countersunk allen bolts in Robert Dyas. They're marked as furniture bolts or something similar.

  • Any fastener supplier/engineering supplier should sell these loose, just take in the old one and the bolt to make sure the threading is correct.

What you want is one of those old crusty warehouses with stacks of gubbins in dirty cardboard boxes, and an old guy who knows where everything is.

Failing that, put a wanted ad up on the forum: someone's probably got one, somewhere.

  • I solved this for £2.29.

    Close Shutters.

  • Ooh, badass.
