Why the protein in Kenya?
Protein supplements are a bullshit....
-edit-
Realise your point may have been....You're quite right, protein shakes were overkill - but let me explain. I used to lift weights in university, in a homoerotic campus gym full of self-conscious 19 year olds. It was a strong scene, and left me with a habit of drinking protein after strenuous exercise. Protein was cheap and convenient for me in the UK, but now I'm in Kenya I don't miss it.
What I do miss, bizarrely, are Tesco Value scones, packing 1400 calories for 45p. I ate probably 0.8 packs per day at my desk.

Only if you 'bonked or because, you are hungry. But there is nothing awful that will happen if you waited.
Totally agree ;-)

I ate most of an advent calendar last time I got in from a ride. My preference is for something you don't have to break into though.

I don't get the hatred for protein shakes - It's an incredibly cheap and convenient way of adding extra protein and calories quickly after exercise, which is needed for muscle recovery. I wouldn't drink them constantly like some people but they are useful at times

^ I find protein shakes useful to drink immediately after any intense training*, as they're easier on my stomach than solid food. This then gives me a chance to sort out some proper food without being in a rush, so my next meal tends to be a bit more considered than if I'd allowed myself to become hungry.
*can't remember when I last did any

The other benefit is that the protein will kill your appetite quickly so you are less likely to gorge and more likely to only eat what you need.

Cyclist magazine had a pretty good article on this.
I'll dig it out over the weekend.

I am so shit at this. I just eat whatever I can find.
I think I definitely don't eat enough protein.

Hatred is generally from the ignorant and the stupid...
You don't have to drink protein powder. You can also cook/bake with it.

This.
I'm not sure that I eat very much protein at all, either post-ride or generally in life. Unfortunately the only protein-rich food that I can think of that I like is peanut butter.

I love cheese but am trying to cut down, you can have too much of a good thing. Plus I'm not sure it's the healthiest source of protein.

And you're a vegan right?
Nuts and seeds are high in protein. -

Peanut butter ( whilst awesome ) may not be either ;-)
What about oats? Surprising amount of protein in porridge.

^^ If I was a vegan I wouldn't be trying to cut down on cheese, I wouldn't eat it at all! I'm veggie. However I'm not a squirrel so I don't really like nuts or seeds.
^ Porridge..... bleuuuuuuurgh. Sorry.
