  • Mya will do you a good cut for free. Or me or Dave McCann

  • Looks like I'll be moving to Birmingham in the next month or so. Where are the best places to live as a young professional? Need to be able to get into the city for work with relative ease (ideally on my brompton).

    Also hi etc.

  • South birmingham! follow NCR 5, everyone's a winner.

  • Hello Birmingham people! Off for a meal with my parents later in town, I'm thinking we'll go for Chinese food. I'm veggie and my parents aren't, does anyone have recommendations for somewhere in the Chinese quarter? Ta!

  • Thanks!

  • there's loads of good places though (like cafe soya in the arcadian) so might be best to have a mooch around first.
Miss Korea is cash only I think....

  • Cafe Soya is amazing, their Papaya Salad is the bomb.

  • Also not really much of a Salad.

  • Went to Cafe Soya, had the spicy chips amongst others things, they were ace!

  • Anyone know of a decent powdercoater in brum?

  • I haven't had any problems with Bourne's in Highgate/digbeth.

  • Yeah, second for Bournes. @jerome

  • Sweeney & Sherlock are also good, I think even cheaper than Bournes. Not sure if they specialise in frames if that's what you're after.

  • Hi Birmingham people! Any tips on routes from New Street station to Small Heath (B10 0HJ)? I don’t know Birmingham at all but I’ve got the option of commuting this every so often. I’m assuming Bordesley roundabout is a shit-storm? Is the grand union tow path a decent surface?

  • Yeah it's pretty good to small heath. Dark though!

  • Thanks! I’ll try to avoid ending up in the canal

  • Bordesley roundabout has lights now so it's safer than the garrison lane one.

  • Massive dredge - but I'm going to be spending a lot of time in Birmingham in the next 6 months and was wondering where people would recommend to stay? Somewhere with access to decent roadie/#nogravel rides, a nice coffee shop and some pubs would be ideal.

I'm thinking Stirchley/Mosely - does that sound right? I live in Peckham atm for reference (if that helps)?

  • Not lived in Brum for going on a decade but kings heath has things going on.

Hare and hounds, secret garden cafe et al, cycle routes out of town.

I used to work at the bulls head + H&H back in the day, hopefully someone who actually lives there can give you a better insight!

  • Yeah Stirchley more so than Moseley as you can get out to the south of the city easier which is where the good stuff is out through Clent, Belbroughton to the Wyre. Plenty of good stuff going on in Stirchley too

  • Thank you! And thanks @Settle too. Think that's where I'm gonna aim for.

  • Haven't been back there much this year, but had a really fun night in Stirchley a while back. Hopefully places like Attic Brewery and Cork and Cage will still be alive and thriving when you get there!
