My bikes evolution of the past few years.

  • I realised today this will be the next stage of evolution (so to speak) of my everyday track bike over the past years of swapping, buying and selling parts.
My first track bike was this.

A globe roll specialized (I don't know, i was young hahah)
The first thing i replaced was the plastic seat (after about 5 minutes of riding it) and then the back wheel threading gave up on me and nearly caused me to have a crash on a main road round about - so i opted for a H+ replacement and i wacked some nittos on the front

I had that bike in that set up for ages until this frame came along on the LFGSS

And just looking at the picture i feel in love straight away
so i sold my entire bike (minus the H+) to my mate to get my mits on the Ellsworth, and so that was an end of my globe.

My first build of the Ellsworth was really poor - I didn't have alot of money so it was built up with shody parts at first

Bankrupt (says it all) forks, headset and stem apater
    cheapo carbon seatpost
    driveline crankset
Straps off the forum (which lasted me for fuck knows how long, a really good investment)
I later put a chain on and a pro lite stem and profile TT bars
about 6 months after first getting bike built I was in a really bad crash which wrecked my forks, headset, wheel and handlebars

in a twist of fate however it meant i was able to start building up my Ellsworth more the way i wanted it.
The resulting money led to this.

    Chrome forks from tokyo fixed
    campag shamal 90's
    new drops
I late added some cut down risers for the hipster points

This was an amazing set up - loved it too bits and had alot of fun on it
and then the olympics came around and i became hooked once again on the idea of riding a velodrome
    so
with this in mind came the next stage of my Ellsworth evolution

I sold the campag wheel, carbon seat post and traded my white H+ for a black H+ with CBW - you know to make it go quicker haha (well that was a while ago)
And with that i bought some deda pista drops and a cinelli pista stem
I also bought this huge beast

which was never going to work
so i settled for a Thomson Elite instead.
MKS double cage toe clips and straps and the addition of a stronglight 51T chainring and some thickslick 25c tyres

I also added a H+ front wheel into the mix built on an amazingly smooth sturmey archer hub, but was never sure of that

Unfortunately as you can see from the pictures - the paint on the TT is fucked! i Dlocked it in central a while ago - left it for an hour or so AND half the paint was on my Dlock...would rather the prick stole my saddle or something, So i'm going to get it repainted at some point - maybe around christmas..

so anyway, today i Sold the H+ and bought myself
a new carbon saddle and a pista front wheel-
Once the parts have come i'll take some proper photos (i.e. not on a phone camera or on my mac...also not non drive side fail photos which i seem to do alot of haha)

  • You're in Kingston right? I reckon I cycled past you monday morning, you were coming out of the Knights Park campus car park? Either that or there's someone with a suspiciously similar bike riding around ahah.

  • yeah that was me - i go to kingston uni so you'll probably see me and my bike quite a lot around there haha

  • What happened next??????

  • Is it going to look good anytime soon?

  • "999? Burns Unit please..."

  • ooooooooo burn
it looks much better in real life - I just havn't dedicated any real time to photographing it properly so would blame it partly on that
secondly I am a student so buying parts on a very tight budget is hard enough let alone getting decent ones haha

  • once the paint is re done and the new parts come in the post i think the frame will have been built up justly

  • I can attest to that picture not doing it justice, looked pretty swish when you went past me. What are you studying by the way? I'm also at Kingston.

  • SO...

Have you ridden round the velodrome yet?

  • haha cheers man - i didn't catch your bike, then again i go past about 5 diffrent people on fixed gears going to uni these days, so i may have done. Art foundation yourself? you'll have to say hi some time if you see me around campus man

  • doing my induction this saturday at herne hill - can't wait :)

  • I'm third year Graphic Design, foundation seems like a long lost memory (except I did mine in Manchester) it's a fun year though. I'm on a navy-blue steel track frame proudly emblazoned with BLOWER on the downtube (the name of the frame builder).

  • My build at the moment
    -S10 full carbon saddle
    -Thomson elite seatpost
    -Thomson seatpost clamp
    -Cinelli pista stem
-Deda pista drop bars W/ track grips
-H+son formation face rear wheel laced on a BLB track hub with a 16t sprocket
-Navigator pista front wheel laced on a novatec hub
    -Thickslick 25c tyres
    -Miche pista chain
    -51t Stronglight chainring
    -Driveline crank arms 165mm
    -MKS double cage and straps
    -Cane creek S2 headset
    -Tokyo fixed chrome forks
    -Shimino BB
    -Ellsworth track frame 58ST

  • next step
paint job and would love a sugino zen crankset

  • thats looking nice. pretty huge gear though considering you ride it brakeless on the road!

  • This bike seems like a 'Triggers Broom' - I have abike like this too. If you don't know what 'Triggers Brrom' is please watch this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPJO99bFGQ8

  • thats looking nice. pretty huge gear though considering you ride it brakeless on the road!

thanks man - don't really have a problem with stopping at all and the biggest hill i ride is kew bridge haha

  • new paint job i'm planning

  • (excuse the crappy Paint drawing haha)

  • I think you should do it just like that crappy Paint drawing.

  • so restoration rather than a new paint job? - would make a nice change thou
and completely forgot about the current projects - my bad.

  • very nice, what do you think of the front navigator pista for road use?

  • very nice, what do you think of the front navigator pista for road use?

I have done 13.000km road on my navpista - all kind of road&weather. Still true, but changing the bearings now.

  • +1 not had a single problem
use it everyday in all weather and its been fine
