I've heard oxalic acid is the shizzle for chrome. It's found in decking cleaner from your local B&Q.

It most certainly is the shizzle for removing rust from any ferrous metal.
It is powder which is dissolved in water and you need a capacious enough receptacle in which to soak the rusty item.
I got mine off ebay
Its fucking magic I tell you. -

Coarse wire wool dipped in a little bit of 3-in-1, drink a beer, fine wire wool with autosol, drink another beer, autosol on a rag, drink more beer and admire. They'll look buff ting

+1 for oxalic acid - you can find it on eBay and it is brilliant stuff even for heavy rust on chrome. I've used it to save numerous handlebars, levers and cranks from vintage roadsters.
Autosol/brasso is only really good for spots and smaller areas.
Soak overnight then use a green scourer to take off. Finish up with autosol.

I've looked online and seen several recommended ways including aluminum foil, wire wool etc
Anyone have any other suggestions or tips?
Can't decide if I can restore some rusty wheels or if they are just too rusty and need replacing with new!
