  • Is it just me or are the amount of people i'm seeing on their phone becoming more?

Its bad enough being another driver and having someone swerve to not hit you because they are not paying attention with one hand on the side of there face, i'm not looking forward to getting back to that bit of cycling?

I wonder if its time for another purge, if i am a passenger in a car and see someone i either pretend to or do take their picture, everyone has a camera phone nowadays. hehe

  • I got someone stopped by the police because of this. Merc driver swerving in and out of the bike lane, I see that he is on his phone, luckily happens to be a police car behind him. I draw their attention to this and they promptly pulled him over.

  • I had a lady with 3 kids in the car on the phone swerve round me as i was backing into a parking space this afternoon and a few months ago i had to get out of the way of a bin truck changing lanes without indicating, when i got up beside it the bloke was on the phone, phoned the council about that one.

  • god i have started feeling like Victor meldrew again. baaaah.

  • It will be because the law is so difficult to enforce so people just ignore it. In their minds it won't be them that crashes and kills someone will it...

  • I always shout at people on the phone, whether I'm on my bike or in my van.
(when in van I wind down the window)

  • This thread needs pictures...

  • Perfect!

  • Sweeet!

  • Today I was cycling down great suffolk st, and at a T junction stopped to give way when what looked like a giant penis riding a moped approach from the right. It has it's left indicator running, but something told me to take that with a pinch of salt. As it approached I decided to stay put and not pull out assuming it was actually turning left. Sure enough it just went straight on, still indicating left. At which point I noticed it was texting. It then continued over another crossroads without turning, still blinking left.

  • Thread 100%validity.
Gets worse, there's even bus drivers at it.

  • Friendly tap on the window with a sarcastic smile is my answer. If not a full on you fucking CUNT does the trick as well. Texters are far worse drivers than callers IMHO

  • Am I the only one who reports every single one to https://secure.met.police.uk/roadsafelondon/ ?

  • I usually see around 5 a day, It really bugs me. It's been illegal for years yet people still do it, its usually older drivers who were driving before the law change I've noticed. I've seen a driver driver straight through a red light and hit a pedestrian before, later saw her arrested and was informed by a passer by that she was on the phone and missed the red light. Scary!

Sussex also have an email : contact.centre@sussex.pnn.police.uk
Everyone important has an official Twitter also! http://www.sussex.police.uk/contact-us/social-media/

I have always been happy to call the police and log a Reg, they have pushed it in West Sussex foer a while.

    I dont feel bad.

  • Didn't know you could report them, I will in future

I didn't realise they did this in sussex, I'm going to start logging reg's and reporting them also. What are the consequences, do drivers actually get punished?

  • Yeah it had a name like they always do like Project narwal or something, but yeah if a reg is logged enough it flags up and they have a visit, so i'm told?

I yell at them too once I get really close to their windows.

The response is usually quite entertaining as their tiny brains struggle to concentrate simultaneously on their phone call, their driving and the noisy mad cyclist woman giving them a shock and an earful.

It just makes me so bloody angry.

Having said that, I wouldn't do this somewhere really busy like Hyde Park Corner as I wouldn't want to put others at greater risk :)

  • A while ago at night some dickhead pulled out in front of me at about 10mph and then carried on down a residential street at then same speed chatting and laughing away. So I slapped the back of his car and he shit himself, slammed on the brakes and dropped his phone.

And another thing...everyday I see HGV driver on their phones too!!! There can surely be few things more lethal than fucking HGV drivers not concentrating.

  • They were fucking too?

  • I have a ticker tape app on my phone which enables me to write whatever I want on it. I usually remove the phone from my pocket and show them what it says.

No prizes for guessing what it is I have programmed in there...

  • 'Pucker up lover boy'

    ?

  • 'Stop, in the name of love'

    ?
