If it's microtex a nice trick is to wrap your bars with a coloured cloth tape first, that gives a little more padding, and the colour shows through the holes in the fizik.
For even more padding, wrap in old inner tube, then cloth tape, then fizik...
or use gel pads.
Think I'll do this.
Layer or two of cloth then fizik on top -

tiny piece of white electrical tape under faceplates with cut out logos make them stand out quite nicely...

perfectly executed here by TP88 in fluoro:

sick^rad!

Nice job dude!

Cheers... It's uneven, the two sides aren't really in line with each other and you can see the tape below in a couple of places! But other than that I'm happy! :-/

Forgive me if these are re-posts, but I think I found some cool how-to type stuff:

I never believed that folk down under were ill educated.... Then I read this ^ .
I don't get it. Fully wrapping bars from the top down makes no sense. Your hands just get caught on the edges of the tape and makes them roll up.

Depending on the tape and technique this is not a problem.
I think it looks hella better than using finishing tape, and gives slightly more grip if riding on the top of the drops (not in the middle, but where the hoods would be....) so is more comfortable.
Anyway, functional bartape; not porn not anti thread > > > > > > > > > > > > > >

Just use right finishing tape.. we always use some made by Tesa, which works perfectly. But I do see a lot of guys using two layers which overlap eachother, so it won't look clean (if you know what I mean ;d).

I used Lizard Skins (2.5mm) for the first time the other day. The adhesive on it is terrible, barely stays in place when wrapping the bars. I wrapped it tight, but didn't stretch it as much as I would with Fizik. I used Nitto electrical tape to finish it off.
It's really nice to ride with though. I'm intrigued to see how it holds up.

ignore the instructions and wrap it tight or it will slip
-
• #564
Yeah, I did, juts not as tight as the Fizik stuff.
Favourite tape is still this though...

fizik soft touch and lizard skid are a pain in the ass to wrap around the levers, but seem worth it when finally done.
i got some used (re-use-able) white cloth tape in the shed, somewhere, thinking of doing/trying some Harlequin with some brand new white tape on some classic drops of a conversion im planning on doing

not if you do it right. this is fizik:

Yeah its doable of course, just harder to do than cork tape for example
-
• #568
do it like this if the lever design allows it:

marmite?

• #570
Have they invented a new marmite that is universally repulsive?
-
• #571
Very nicely done. The blue-on-white end tape looks ace.

no. just as easy as everything else..do it like this if the lever design allows it
this is what I tried to show.

^^thanks a lot.

No way is microtex as easy as cork. It doesn't have so much strech which is why it creases much easier.
I've recently been persuaded to learn the figure 8 technique and it is the way forward!
I start with the tape under the bar and then go round the back and over the drop, for the first half turn, if that makes sense? I find that direction easiest going into and coming out of the figure 8 bit.

could you explain this a bit more? I'd like to know.
