  • No, I couldnt.

  • Maybe you could try making yourself a reservation on the train?

I was chatting to a guy last year who was saying he tried to get the train the year before, and ended up spending most of the day on the platform. Can't remember which station he was trying to get on at though.

  • I've been struggling to remember whether I did last year's DD. Sarah's tumble just after Epping, a vague recollection of riding with Anothersam near the end and seeing a barn owl...

I remember getting a little lost as I do every year, then running into Ludd (who it seemed safe to pass directional responsibilities to) and making sure I didn't lose him, because frankly after the first few times getting lost gets a bit old. Long before that, leaving Hackney at 9.00 on the nose after fighting against the very powerful urge to JUST GET GOING ALREADY, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR. Besides Godot, I mean.

What are the chances of being able to squeeze your bike onto a train at Halesworth or Darsham?

My first DD I got onto the train from Darsham by the skin of my teeth. Wall-to-wall bikes. Since then I've made the trip to Ipswich, which has never presented a problem just showing up. It's a pleasant enough ride, though the extra mileage can be tiring if you wear yourself out on the first 120.

  • Ohhhh yeeeaaaaahhhh. Double D.

  • I don't think LFGSS will do one this year.

It was mentioned last year that Southwark are going to change their coach system so that it runs continuously from 9am through to the afternoon.

But taking on such a thing is far less compelling this year if Southwark are actually running coaches back as and when they fill them up.

I would expect a rolling service again, with an earlier start and leaving when the bike truck is full. Possibly not as early as 9am, I want a swim and a pint before I start the loading !

  • I love that Braker appears to have a strange iridescent halo with images of continental tourist attractions appearing in it.

I so want to do this, but bad timing. gah.

  • Are we not listing?

  • I wish someone (not me) would organise the coach that Velocio will mostly pay for, would be great to return with you guys...

  • Im with digger, thinking about it.

Part of what made it so special was being forced to wait, which meant that we would all gather together, as a group and enjoy the aftermath of the ride. Sitting in the pub with all my close friends looking like I was going to die, but inside I was all warm and fuzzy.

If we just got on a bus and left as we got there, there wouldnt be the bonding we had last year.

      Too bad

    Youre getting on the coach!

  • I'm in, missed this last year due to broken collar bone, first proper century too

  • I shall be riding this on my SS Karate monkey as it's my only working bike at the moment. I also dont have any road wheels or spare tyres so I'm just going to ride with my tubeless knobblies and gear the bike high(er).

Judging by what people have said about the coach issues, I think I may cycle back to London too..probably after a days rest!

Do many others entertain it with a MTB?

  • Too bad

    Youre getting on the coach!

Fair enough - I am on the list...
