I've got a spare Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1080 knocking around if anyone's interested.
£300?

Hmmm... tempting... think I have considered this before and think I came to the conclusion it wouldn't be much of an upgrade over my 1070 in my eGPU.

I suppose that should have an asterisk on it as a fairly obvious eggcorn. :)

Argh. Gall then.

Devastated. Groza and ghillie - 8 kills in, 1 v 1 in final circle, he had no idea where I was. Saw him creep towards me and didn't even move, just when he was in crosshairs i pulled trigger. And emptied clip into the ground - was TPP instead of ADS so I thought I was hitting about 2 feet higher than I actually was. Easiest chicken din I've ever said no to.

Oh dear, you really aren't having much luck are you :(
Any idea what the error is, any code? Keep an eye on the terminal at the bottom of the webGUI, you can expand it by clicking on it. -

You know that the HP server won't be fast enough to transcode? It'll only work for devices on the local network that can play the files natively.

Not even with upgraded video card, and 16g RAM?
This is only a project for now. If it can't when I'm done and If I'm successful, I'll move up to a synology or qnap. Then this will become another storage unit. I have enough random HDD/SSDs lying about.

Just put a pre-order in on Amazon US for a 9900K. Even with shipping and import fees added it's under £500, compared to the £600 that all UK retailers are charging.
Won't ship until sometime after the 19th depending on however many orders they have before mine, so I still have plenty of time to come to my senses and cancel.

It's always been pretty unclear as to whether Plex can use video cards, what OS/hardware it needs to be, etc (also, you'll need to pay for Plex to be able to hardware encode). It may improve it but I wouldn't bet on it. Does FreeNAS even have up to date drivers for graphics cards?

• #4542
What are you running that needs something that powerful?
-
• #4543
I do a lot of 3D stuff. Rendering scales pretty much linearly with cores.
The likes of DCS World and Assetto Corsa are both pretty heavy on the CPU as well, particularly in VR. While eight cores might be mostly redundant in that respect, 5GHz clock speed should help.

You're asking me?! Ha! I can't even get a jail up and running. Or add folders.

I recently upgraded my Mum's shitty laptop to a Win 10 desktop I had going spare and grabbed her old Dell Inspiron that was dying a long and slow Win Vista death.
Just wiped it and stuck the Neverware Chrome OS system on it. Typing this on it at the moment.
I'm impressed. Turned it into a snappy little thing running the latest Chrome browser.
Yeah, could of put a Linux distro on it but I just wanted something portable to browse the web that had a bigger screen than the phone.

Try 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in your browser and then look in the settings.

Yeah I've still got the same CPU from 2011/12 and it runs everything I need to absolutely fine. Since then I've replaced the mobo and graphics card and doubled the RAM, still going well.
Although the PSU is getting loud...
