I live in Geneva.
But can't help you with a route, until you're into the back roads through the Jura. Which is lovely, BTW. The road between St. Cergue and Divonne is a hoot.
But if you'd like a beer when you get in - shout.

Toying with the idea of doing either Manchester -> Paris at the end of July, or something like London-Geneva in August. How many days are you thinking? Geared or fixed?

You doing it on a geared polo bike Ali? How many days are you planning for the full trip?
If you zoom out far enough on a map it doesn't look that far!

I'm also considering going a longer route, through belgium then along the french-german border.
this would be better methinks.. ardennes, alsace region and the fabled crescent ridge route thro' the Vosges Mountains then Jura ranges..

I'm planning on doing the exact same thing in reverse in July. I think I'm going to take 14 days for it, I have a friend in Belgium that I'll spend a day with, and wouldn't mind a few other lazy days.
A route through belgium, luxembourg and the black forest should come to about 8-900 miles...

I've booked two weeks off work, which will give me time to do a longer route.
There is a couple of other polo players interested as well who also won't qualify for the worlds but fancy going along to cheer, drink and heckle in Geneva. We are going to meet up and chat about the route this week, I think that the french-german border route is the one people are keener on.

Planning on riding it on my polo bike, using a 8spd alfine on the rear. It has no rack mounts but I am thinking getting some "bike packing " style gear like a frame bag. I think we will end up with a mix of hostels and lightweight camping. -

yep i've done it, it was amazing. took around 8 days including an easy day in the middle. i'd recommend panniers, and either bringing camping gear or going for b&bs you pass in the late afternoon each day.
i went on the ferry to calais, then went roughly as the bird flies towards geneva.. arras, st. quentin, chaumont, grey, salins les bains then over the mountains to nyon, then around the lake to geneva.
roads are very well marked in the countryside, but i would advice steering clear of towns, as it is too easy to get lost in them.
if you can possibly manage it, go through the foret de chaux towards the jura, fantastic cycling
remember getting service in france is a nightmare on wednesday and sunday!

I am thinking of doing this in mid August.
It seems to be quite a common route for charity fundraiser rides if you take the most direct route, through dieppe then through paris. Has anyone on here done it?
I'm also considering going a longer route, through belgium then along the french-german border.
