• Hi there, I'm most of my way through building a fairly cheap fixie, but I have reached a point where all I need is these two parts, as 26.2mm seatpost and a 1" quill stem. I already have a zenith 1" but it has a slightly too large clamp size, but I am not too sure what size it needs to be, so suggestions are welcomed. Removeable faceplate preferred as the bars already have tape and levers etc. Also I'm in cambridge so will probably need stuff posted. Thanks!

    not removable faceplate, but you said

    preferred

    Unless you want my almost mint condition Cinelli Oyster Stem, but that's at £30

    it has a hinged clamp so you can fit wrapped bars.

  • also any chance you can measure the bar diameter? the stems are for 26mm bar clamp

  • I'll go measure now, but I am quite sure it is probably smaller than 26mm

  • tell you what I just gave it a rough measure (paper and ruler, oldschool) and It came out at about 26. £30 is a bit high for me at the moment though.

  • buy the other one!

    It's good practice, unwrapping, rewrapping etc :)

  • best way to measure is wrap a piece of paper around the bar, mark where it meets and then reaarange this:

    c = 2 π r
    so
    r = c / ( 2 π )
    therefore
    d = 2 r

  • yeah, that's how i went about it, got 26.1ish. I think i may take you up on that but I would rather not bother, i've not wrapped tape before and I want to get this going asap

  • see it as a learning curve! loads of videos on doing it anyway

    I can do the quill stem for £13 posted? (split cost)

  • tell you what you've won me over, I'll send you a pm.
