  • So....... have we got a meeting place and time?.......need to get some major miles in this weekend....... if its not happening will go there and back on my 'jack jones'

  • Meet here for a 9.00 departure:

That's the SW corner of Somerset House, which is on the NE side of Waterloo Bridge. Just go down the short ramp to the X.

Anyone who hasn't signed up and wants to turn this into a last minute ride is also welcome.

  • Weather forecast from Metcheck:

" Looking ahead to the weekend and Saturday will start off chilly and bright but tend to become rather cloudy for many although it should be generally dry."

  • Sounds good to me, got my OS maps sorted in case I get 'dropped'

  • tonyme, which maps did you get, I think I might do the same? Looks like 199 and 188 should cover it?

  • Meet here for a 9.00 departure:

I think I'm a bit in love with anothersam. His posts at any rate. Have some rep.

  • SPS, dug out the Hastings one and also Maidstone, or we can just follow the sun south until we hit the sea, go along a bit and there is Hastings, innit.

  • Have some rep.

Thanks, I think that's my first

Nobody gets dropped, I hope, including me...

We'll be fine as long as we leave in advance of the attack of birds due in London later that morning, avoid the herd of wildebeast last spotted stampeding out of Brighton, and take the funicular railway up to high ground in Hastings when the tsunami hits.

For those taking the train back, no engineering works are planned, which is good, because the balloon replacement service doesn't take bikes.

  • Do those 'red'blobs ' on the map mean we are going on a balloon ride????

  • I wish this was on Sunday.

  • I'm sad that I'm not able to ride this weekend - things are busy chez Ludd with two Luddlets having, just this morning, hit the 18 year milestone. Anothertimesam.

  • Sorry y'all can't make it.

No, balloons are too dangerous. Here's one that came down near my house a few years ago. As you can see, it's about to devour some ramblers.

Anticipating the need for preliminary remarks, here are some notes I prepared earlier.

  • Just chequed (intentional) the weather............big tailwind ripping from the North,,,,,,,,,be there for Lunch................

It looks a bit like ChainBreaker's avatar.

  • I'd be all over this like a nasty infection if it wasn't for Sunday's Town & Gown.

    Have a blast.

  • I think I'm out. I'll be doing some flatter, long miles instead which is probably for the best since my knee is a bit hurty anyway - pathetic given I haven't ridden anywhere over the past two weeks. I wanted to do this fixed too.

Looks like you'll get your good weather though, and enjoy the tailbreeze...

  • What a great day for a bike ride!

  • Wish I'd seen this yesterday!

  • You missed a great ride Odogg! Sun, views, hills, history, coast line, honey glazed cashews, no mechanical, great company.

    Would reccomend to a friend.

  • We've been invited down to Bexhill, next door to Hastings, for new year. So I'll pinch most of this route for a wintery New Year's Eve morning ride down.

    Thanks lfgss x

  • Great timing this popping up, I was thinking of riding to my parents (Bexhill) for Christmas day but really don't fancy the car route...

  • Don't go to Bexhill (God's waiting room), the locals kill young people and use the remains for spare parts surgery.....

Hefty, if you do an 80 mile ride in December it counts as serious training and invalidates any race we might undertake!

If you guys fancy a hungover ride, let me know.

  • Are you down that way Colin?

I like Bexhill. To someone who spent their childhood at the sad Victorian seaside towns on the Norfolk Coast Bexhill feels thriving and dynamic.

  • Londoner exiled in Hastings, which is shabby, weird and fun! Bexhill isn't so bad, but I can guarantee at least one crusty (anyone a year older than me) in a small Japanese car, will try to kill me on my commute to Eastbourne every time.

I've been trying to forget Norfolk, I went to school there, but in darker moments......

There's a 3 pub stop 40ish mile ride with a bunch of idiots on the 27th if you're down by then. Evening curry and piss-up highly likely.
