So tropical for the Welsh Coast!? :oP
It coincided with a huge influx of painted ladies in late June
My littlest is really enjoying the bug hunting with me recently, getting some quality time together. He was happy handling the Devils Coach Horse and the Opiliones (#notaspider), too. Taken with the little Panasonic I keep in the bag, complete with paper thin DOF.
What kind of bee
A Potato Leafhopper (Eupteryx aurata) from a walk yesterday
and a Yellow Dung Fly (Scathophaga stercoraria)
Cracking shot, that!
Devil's coach horse beetles are great. I briefly contemplated kidnapping one while out cycling on the South Downs last weekend, so I could take it home to photograph properly. But decided this wasn't very ethical.
Meanwhile in London our garden appears to mostly be devoid of anything very exciting. Though I did finally manage to get a decent zebra spider photo - made a pringles tube macro diffuser which seems to have worked quite well.
Nice photo - love those jumping spiders, they seem to have a manga-like character, I think its the over sized eyes
Me too they are cheeky little things they def have a character to them
Thank you. Taking a break from trying to stack photos and consequently getting better results.
New homemade flash diffuser looks awful but is working well.
A young Green Shieldbug (Palomena prasina) from earlier today
Dug up some overgrown plants at Walworth Garden, was quickly surrounded by these guys
Those are a good find, they're young Southern Green Shieldbugs (Nezara viridula). In the UK very much London species. See https://www.britishbugs.org.uk/heteroptera/Pentatomidae/nezara_viridula.html
Cheers for the ID!
There is a big spider hiding in the plug hole right now
He / she / they need rescuing but how to tempt it out?
Offer it a snack, like a whole lamb or side of pork?
This is a Pied Hoverfly (Scaeva pyrstri) from a trip to the Somerset Levels earlier this week. These hoverflies migrate during the summer to the UK from continental Europe.
Several of them in next door's garden last week, got a few ok-ish photos - https://www.instagram.com/p/CjA0wvZKdbw/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
(also I made an instagram account).
Might try some crisps, small snacks, selection of hors d'oeuvres
Do arachnids prefer vol au vents or cheese and pineapple?
Walkers Elf n'Hobbit.
