• Going to Homerton Hospital for Physio in a bit, is it a really bad idea to park a half decent bike outside? Will be properly locked with fagh and a mini

  • in the east end, not far from hackney
    take the bus dude
1 hr is a long time in hackney

but i guess you'll find it down brick lane on sunday anyways so ... the choice is yours

  • I've never heard of bike thefts from there, but that's not to say they don't exist. It's just that in the LCC in Hackney we get a lot of anecdotal reports of theft, and HH has never figured. I'd say it's unlikely to be very much targeted by thieves--very busy forecourt with CCTV, which will no doubt be actively monitored. The bike racks are now right next to where people walk in; they used to be in a slightly more obscure location. That also, theoretically, makes it easier to walk out with a bike, but I'd say there's no way anyone would be able to get away with using an angle grinder. Bolt croppers, maybe. I wouldn't class the risk there as very high, but it is of course still possible for a theft to occur.

  • If your bike is not too flashy I reckon you should be ok, lots of bikes are parked over there

  • i used to park there a lot. you can find some good spots with plenty of footfall to lock up in

  • lock up next to a fancier looking bike, one with an obviously shit lock or both.

  • I've locked mine up there plenty of times with a fag and abus steel-o-flex.

I was a bit wary but no signs of tampering.

  • With those two locks I'm sure the frame and wheels would be fine, not so confident about the saddle and seatpost though.

    Maybe take a spare.

Probably not so much now you've advertised you're going to be leaving a half decent bike there (and with the locks you'll be using)

  • ^ ha!

I opted for a long walk instead, too nice a day to be on the bus. had a look at the bike racks and they seem sturdy enough, though my bike would've been by far the most interesting to steal

  • ^ bragger. tsk tsk

  • I've left mine outside there loads times, never any problems. The police Safer Neighburhoods office is on the forecourt so there's lots of bobbies around all the time

  • You could be seeing me for free! (same NHS trust). Hope it's going well.

  • Not only can you park you bike outside the front door or round the back the physio department is really top quality

  • Bluerip00 - I've already been discharged. My arm healed fine, I was doing great progress on my own, just got some stretching exercises and that should be it.

Gotta say I've been very impressed with the NHS on this matter, super efficient and professional on every occasion. After being at my GP a few times I didn't look forward to go to hospital, luckily I was wrong.
