I've just bought a beautiful Mercian frame from 56 as my first project ( I know I'm an idiot and it's gonna be a pain in the ass finding parts but the frames stunning)
Can people tell me other than the spacing on the spacing on the dropouts is there anything
Else that is remarkably different from that era.
Also anyone willing to part with any parts from that era and ship to oz let us know.
so much good 50s info here including readers bikes for some 50s Mercian examples
Thanks mate i'll have a look
There's plenty of 1950s stuff out there. Cycle jumbles are a good way to start. You can't beat a good rummage, as they say...
If you're desperate, there's always fleabay.
And you can always build it up with whatever bits come to hand and then make it period correct when the right '50s parts appear. You can usually fit 700c wheels in place of 27in too.
Good luck with the build!
It can look a bit "gappy" if you use 700s in lieu of 27s. Is it track or road? Seems more critical with a track frame. Maybe you are going to sample the delights of cottered BB, axle and chainset! There are a few classic UK bikes in Australia.
