  • If he'd got a mate to drive the JCB then that's cheating, using what you find on the road is ok I think.

If you look at the ride notes for the KOM over Waterloo bridge the chap says he simply kept his front wheel an inch behind a bus which got a clear run.

  • Fair comment. That's my conclusion. My previous effort was on my winter trainer so next spring/summer I'll drag the best bike out and have another go to see if I can't take it back. Hopefully there will be a London bus well off its normal route going at a constant 28 mph for the entire duration of the seg ;-)

Joking aside I can't really understand why someone would ride so close to a bus risking serious injury purely for the chance to take a Strava KOM.

  • Going out on a limb here, but I would suggest that they might have done it for fun, with the whole getting the KOM thing a pleasant surprise when they got to a PC later that day.

I've gone out to deliberately win KOM's before (from an obese friend of mine), but only as a joke and no busses were abused in this effort.

  • At least he's been honest and admitted drafting a perfectly paced vehicle but I nearly had a heart attack to take two of the KOMs he's effectively been gifted.

Trying not to be irritated by it but can't help feeling its not really in the spirit of things. What's your take?

Same debate as "real" TT courses vs dragstrip courses.

  • So is going out in a chain gang cheating too?

  • Or using a crappy phone GPS that takes samples rarely, causing dodgy interpolation of results across the start and end of segments.

    not bitter at all

  • What are people's view on this sort of thing:

It's not important. I don't care. If it does bother you just think... one day you too may find a JCB?

    ;-)

  • So is going out in a chain gang cheating too?

Only if you miss your turn on the front.

  • Doesn't everyone hire JCBs to ride behind?

  • I don't need that many mid ride snacks, so no.

  • Is it just me, or is strava playing up?
Trying to upload, but keep getting a 404 server not found.......?

  • Doesn't everyone hire JCBs to ride behind?

We hire John Deeres around these parts, limited to 28.5mph.

  • It's ok.....problem my end :0)

    You're in the wrong thread

Nout wrong with tailgaiting buses. It's a free ride, innit.

Tipper trucks, on the other hand, often have lumps of crap falling off the back of them. Which makes life interesting, to say the least...

  • I don't need that many mid ride snacks, so no.

    Go long or go home.

I prefer drafting cabs anyway. You can see through the windscreen.

  • ^ Spam. Banned.

When did Millar apologise for that RP lap?

    ;)

He said he'd been "naive" and apologised. Meh. I bet he didn't mean it. I wouldn't have. I'd be smug as hell if I could lap RP at 30mph.

  • Is there a way of transfering files from the Garmin Connect site to Strava?

    Just gave in and joined.

Partly because I want to create a 7km segment across our local reservoir. Then ride across it on the studded tyres of my fatbike, when it freezes in a few months. Should be able to hold on the that one.

  • If you build it they will come.

Got overtaken by a tandem on Sunday in RP.

I drafted for a bit, but bit out of sorts.

Could be a KOM destroyer on the flat?

    My route...

I see. I didn't think anyone 'cept us bike forum types even noticed.

Damn right about the 30mph smugness.

I plan to cycle it lengthways. Assuming a certain amount of soft snow coverage. It'll be a tricky one.

  • I think you need to cycle over it first and then make the segment, otherwise strava won't give you a segment creation option.

Let us know before you try it so that we can notify the authorities to go dredging for you, though.

    Thats the plan.

I wasnt going to tell anyone. If I die I'd like to decompose into the local drinking water

I tend to keep my garmin memory empty. So all my recent rides/runs, are on the the connect site only. So I was hoping for a easy way of transfering them.
