Cleaning the gumwall tyres were surprisingly easy when you use industrial soap, and gave it that scented orange smell for those who wish to sit behind me.

nice stem what's that?
y u no put Blooks?
bar tape looks ace
-
• #129
Velo Orange stem, may have to cut it down a bit.
No Blooks as they don't exist, Fizik is the only saddle I can just about be comfortable with (and doesn't look like a think piece of metal).

Lookin' good Ed...

-
• #131
Very nice indeed.
-
• #132
Sorry Ed it's not doing it for me. I think its the black saddle, hoods and pedals....
-
• #133
It all came straight out of the road bike;

-
• #134
Yup I agree - brown/honey saddle, hoods and straps and it'll look pornworthy.
Really nice otherwise though.

So, you left your Gangsta in the US for a bike you haven't even kept!? Ed, umad?
-
• #136
You don't deserve that Gangsta, should definitely give it to me.
-
• #137
Have you ridden the Bob? which do you prefer?
What are you going to do with the lotus?

It's coming here as we speak by freight (sea), the Gangsta will be ridden.
The Lotus will received it's old wheels back from the Bob once I build a new one (definitely settling for TB14 + Paul Jono hubs), and get build back up as a light tourer again, I got a cheaper double compact cranks and 7 speeds cassette for it.

New Campag Athena brakeset, as much as I like to keep it looking classic, there's no way I'm going back to single pivot brakes.
Now need to find matching Campag non-aero drilled brake levers, just like this;

If you're building this with gears are you going to change the title of the thread?
-
• #141
don't get old levers, get some new comfortable ones!
-
• #142
Old levers aren't uncomfortable.
-
• #143
right ok.
-
• #144
why do you think they're uncomfortable?
If you're building this with gears are you going to change the title of the thread?
Already done, just doesn't show up in the main section.
-
• #145
just because the ones i've used are not as comfortable as modern hoods. i think that the place where you spend most of your time should be as good as it can be.
-
• #146
Fair enough and I do agree, it is a personal preference after all.
Oddly enough, I found this particular levers (at a certain angle) the most comfortable one I've ridden on;

-
• #147
ed i've got some campag levers like those drilled ones if you're interested, mine are un-drilled though.

Fair enough, still a WIP then. Brakes look and lever choice looks good, build seems to be heading in the right direction....
Regarding the lever hoods it really is personal choice I do like the smallness of pre STI levers that my hand fits around, that said I also like the modern designs too.
-
• #149
I'm glad you think it's heading the right direction, I'm aiming for a campag build generally (campag derailleur whose arm is long enough for the 14/28t cassette and the 46/30 chainset, hen's teeth? and front that I think I have already).
I'm never going to get classic brakes as I like to stop comfortably and quickly with little effort (once i replaced the crappy stock pads).
Spotter, I'm interested, pm'd sent.

That I do notice, I love the Shimano R400 levers as it's a lovely shape to just grab and sprint, but I still find it a little too long compared to the older designed where your hand doesn't rest on the hood, the hood merely act as a buffet to put your hand in the right position.

I decided that it's best to swap the road bike over to the Griffin instead of converting it to a fixed wheel bicycle.
Reckon it's better off geared, few more change to make before it's finished, Campag Athena dual pivot brakes, Simplex Retrofriction shifter, and different wheelset.
The bottom bracket were noticably lower than the roadie, and I can't lowered that damn stem any further.
