Must add that it'll be my fair weather bike, no mudguard, no fattie (tyres), just weekend ride and the like.
Already got a roadie with mudguard and winter gearing for all season riding.

chromage to catch the sun
ftw
-
• #104
chromage it is.
thank you, you've all been an audience.

I liked having a wear-in look, plus with a decent brake pad, the wear on the rims would (hopefully) not be noticeable.
As others here have said you are just (slightly) delaying the inevitable wearing of the outer coating. You're not going to avoid it.

My dark grey MA40s look slightly odd with a silver streak on them, too.
-
• #107
Very slightly indeed.
I think we've been overusing that word.

The headbadge says "Griffin Kent"
Bob Griffin's have a different griffin and Bob lived in Cheltenham - a long way from Kent
Are we completetly sure that we're dealing with the same Griffin here? -
• #109
I"m sure of it, especially when this Griffin have an identical build to mine minus the mudguard mount and the custom sizing.

End up going for those hubs;

-
• #111
What are they?
-
• #112
Velo Orange high flange track hubs, should look reasonably decent with low profile rims.
-
• #113
They look a bit like airlites which is nice. I'm guessing you can space them out to fit your dropouts?
-
• #114
They look nice, you seem to use a number of Velo Orange parts. How are they overall, cause I never bought anything there but the parts seem nice and not really expensive.
-
• #115
I did, and I think they worked perfectly well as expected, has yet to have any failure nor imperfection.
Only ridden 1,000 miles on the VO 50.4BCD cranks to give a proper feedback on it thought.

I built a wheel with the chromed PBP rim - not something you'd want to go racing on, but seemed decent enough, reasonably light and very 'classic'.
-
• #117
I used to have a Velo Orange fixed wheelset a while ago that was decent value at £135, they does the job and look great on the Holdsworth track I was riding, never had brakes so can't comment on that.
It felt light too.

They actually look pretty good, and felt very well made;

-
• #119
How can something feel well made unless you're feeling it because you're using it for its' intended purpose?

Licking.
-
• #121
Ed licked the threads. They tasted good.
Easy.

hubs felt ridiculously smooth with no resistant when I spun it up, I'm comparing it with the popular system ex/ambrosio/condor et all hubs.
-
• #123
:( I do like my ambrosio and condor hubs :(
-
• #124
yeah, I remember you compared the bike lights once as well..

I've got Open Pro CD's, and can report that using them exclusively on the turbo works wonders in terms of preserving the braking surface through winter
